Job Overview: The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM is designed to attract talented students and recent graduates who have a keen interest in migration-related issues and IOM's activities. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The primary focus of this internship is to support the Protection Unit (Accommodation) in implementing programs related to housing for Ukrainian refugees and other migrants. Interns will work closely with the Project Associate (Accommodation) on various activities aimed at improving access to housing for migrants, including analyzing available services and enhancing cooperation among local authorities and relevant stakeholders. This role will provide interns with valuable insights into the workings of IOM and the migration sector, as well as opportunities for professional development and skill enhancement.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: assisting in the search for and identification of relevant information from credible sources; collecting and organizing data and materials to support team activities and decision-making; evaluating the accuracy, reliability, and relevance of gathered information in collaboration with supervisors; presenting findings clearly and effectively in both written and verbal formats; applying critical thinking to interpret information and contribute to problem-solving processes; and undertaking any other tasks as assigned by supervisors. This internship will also involve gaining a working knowledge of affordable housing activities for migrants and supporting the implementation of related initiatives led by IOM Czechia.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet specific qualifications to be eligible for the internship. These include being enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent), being enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or having graduated with a university degree within the last year. Additionally, candidates should have a specific interest in migration issues and may be required to hold a scholarship for internship placements or be sponsored by governmental or non-governmental institutions.
Educational Background: Applicants for the IOM internship must meet one of the following educational requirements at the time of application: they must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent), be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or have graduated with a university degree and must commence the internship within one year of graduation.
Experience: While prior experience is not mandatory, having some experience, such as an internship in the relevant field, is considered an advantage. This experience will help candidates better understand the responsibilities and expectations of the internship role and contribute effectively to the team's objectives.
Languages: Fluency in English and Czech is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, as it can enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and beneficiaries.
Additional Notes: The internship is subject to funding confirmation and will require certification of the candidate's medical fitness for appointment, verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned government where applicable. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those receiving an internship allowance or scholarship that includes financial remuneration will not be eligible for the stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan for the duration of the internship, but interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. IOM adheres to a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including discrimination and harassment.
