Since March 2020, SI has been active in France to improve living conditions for vulnerable populations who lack access to primary services such as drinking water and sanitation, making them particularly susceptible to various risks. The projects target individuals living in degraded habitats such as slums, camps, or squats, who have very limited and often informal access to these basic services.
Job Overview: The Assistant will participate in programmatic monitoring and reporting in support of zone coordinators. The role involves contributing to the design, technical capitalization, and field interventions alongside program managers. The Assistant will engage in various tasks including project relevance, quality, and design, as well as assisting in evaluations and technical diagnostics related to water, sanitation, and hygiene (EHA). The position requires collaboration with zone coordinators and program managers to ensure effective technical activity design and operational monitoring. The Assistant will also be involved in updating programmatic management tools and assisting in operational implementations such as installations and distributions. Additionally, the role includes participating in the centralization and dissemination of procedures and tools related to EHA activities in France, as well as contributing to project writing and report drafting under the supervision of the zone coordinator.
Duties and Responsibilities: The main responsibilities of the Assistant include:
Project Relevance, Quality, and Design: Participate in evaluation missions and technical diagnostics related to EHA, and assist in writing reports under the supervision of the zone coordinator. Support zone coordinators and program managers in the technical design of activities. Monitor and provide technical support to associations and institutions in collaboration with the EHA coordinator.
Operational Monitoring and Follow-up: Update various programmatic management tools, including installation tracking and project indicator monitoring. Assist program managers and the EHA coordinator in operational implementations such as installations, maintenance, and distributions. Facilitate relationships with technical providers and volunteers involved in activities. Support program managers in hygiene kit distribution and hygiene promotion activities.
Capitalization: Participate in the centralization and dissemination of EHA-related procedures, guides, and tools in France. Contribute to the capitalization of intervention methods and techniques, as well as experiences gained by SI and other actors in EHA activities. Assist in project writing and report drafting under the supervision of the zone coordinator. Participate in the archiving of administrative and programmatic documents and the creation and improvement of technical tools.
Logistical and Financial Means: Maintain documentation related to storage and participate in the logistical/financial cycle related to EHA activities.
Human Resources: Occasionally assist in the recruitment of volunteers, including identification, selection, briefing, and administrative management. Participate in the recruitment process for the replacement intern at the end of the contract.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should have studies in development, water and sanitation, project management, environmental health, political science, or a scientific background. Knowledge of water, hygiene, and sanitation, as well as familiarity with the humanitarian sector, is an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and GIS software (Earth, QGIS) is required. Candidates should possess strong analytical and writing skills, good synthesis abilities, proactivity, critical thinking, organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure. Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to the principles and work of SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL are essential. A valid driver's license (Permis B) is also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes studies in fields such as development, water and sanitation, project management, environmental health, or political science. A scientific profile may also be suitable for this role, particularly if it includes knowledge relevant to the humanitarian sector.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in the fields of development, water and sanitation, or project management. Experience in humanitarian work or related fields is considered an asset, as it demonstrates familiarity with the challenges and dynamics of working in such environments.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory for this position, given the location and the target population. Proficiency in English is also beneficial, as it may be required for reporting and communication with international teams and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This internship is based at the Solidarités International office in Nantes, with occasional field trips to areas such as Angers. The internship contract is for a duration of 6 months, starting on June 23, 202
The intern will receive a stipend of 4.90 euros per hour, calculated based on actual hours worked. The average monthly hours are approximately 154, equating to 22 days of 7 hours each. Public transport costs will be covered at 50% by SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL, and meal vouchers worth 8.90 euros per day of actual internship will be provided, with SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL contributing 60%.
