Job Overview: The Driver position at IOM involves providing transportation services for the Chief of Mission (COM) and other staff members as required. The selected candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the assigned vehicle, ensuring that it is well-maintained and ready for use at all times. This role requires a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion, as the driver will often be privy to sensitive information. The driver will also be expected to assist with administrative tasks when necessary, contributing to the overall efficiency of the office operations. The position is crucial for facilitating the movement of personnel and materials, thereby supporting IOM's mission in Madagascar.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Drive the assigned vehicle for the Chief of Mission and other authorized personnel.
Conduct daily maintenance checks on the vehicle, including tires, brakes, oil, and other essential components to ensure it is in good working condition.
Organize minor repairs and ensure the vehicle is kept clean and presentable.
Plan and follow the safest and most efficient routes to destinations.
Ensure that the vehicle is used only for official business as directed by the supervisor.
Maintain confidentiality and discretion in discussions involving IOM and its officials.
Take appropriate measures to mitigate potential security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security threats to IOM staff and property.
Collect and deliver mail, documents, luggage, and other communications to and from the country office.
Visit post offices, airports, government agencies, and other UN agencies as needed for deliveries and pickups. 1
Assist country office staff with simple administrative tasks when required. 1
Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Secondary school diploma with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience, or a bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of relevant professional experience from an accredited institution.
Valid national driving license.
Knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
Familiarity with UN safety regulations is an advantage.
Basic vehicle repair skills.
Experience driving various makes and models of vehicles.
Proficiency in using radio, email, phone, and other communication applications.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a secondary school diploma or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. The educational background should be complemented by relevant work experience in a similar role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience for candidates with a secondary school diploma, or at least 3 years for those with a bachelor's degree. Experience should include driving in various conditions and familiarity with vehicle maintenance and repair.
Languages: A good command of French is required, both written and spoken. Practical knowledge of English is desirable, as it may facilitate communication within the organization and with international partners.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Madagascar will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, visa, and necessary government authorizations.
