Job Overview:

This includes monitoring and maintaining security equipment, coordinating field movements, and supporting safety procedures in warehouses and during sea operations. The role is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of WFP staff, assets, and operations, particularly in high-risk environments. The assistant will be responsible for reviewing local and regional security threats, compiling reports on incidents, and liaising with local authorities and security agencies to facilitate secure access for WFP activities. The position requires a proactive approach to security management, ensuring that all safety protocols are adhered to and that staff are well-informed and prepared for any potential risks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Security Operations Assistant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: assisting in the review of local and regional security threats and risks; compiling timely and accurate reports on incidents affecting WFP operations; reviewing daily security-related information and providing analysis to support decision-making; liaising with local authorities and security agencies; planning and tracking staff movements; conducting local security assessments; conducting post-mission debriefings; supporting the implementation of Operational Security Standards; monitoring access control at WFP facilities; managing security-related equipment; ensuring safe delivery and storage of items; identifying security training needs; supervising security personnel; and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a secondary school education or a university degree (Diploma/Bachelor) in Security Management, International Relations, Law Enforcement, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have a strong understanding of security procedures and methods, typically acquired through technical training and relevant work experience. The ability to maintain vigilance, follow security protocols, and respond effectively during emergencies is essential. Strong communication and coordination skills are also required for engaging with various stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes completion of secondary school education or a university degree (Diploma/Bachelor) in a relevant field such as Security Management, International Relations, or Law Enforcement. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of security operations and the necessary protocols to ensure safety in humanitarian contexts.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of relevant experience if they possess a secondary school certificate, or a minimum of two years of experience in security management if they hold a university degree. Experience in police, military, port security, or warehouse-related roles is preferred, particularly in humanitarian or logistics settings. This level of experience is necessary to effectively manage security operations and respond to potential threats in a timely manner.

Languages:
Fluency in English (level C) and Somali is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and coordination with local authorities, staff, and other stakeholders involved in WFP operations. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
