Job Overview: The Economics and Development Financeintern position at the RCO (Resident Coordinator's Office) in China is designed for individuals who are eager to gain practical experience in the field of economics and development finance. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Economist and will be involved in various tasks that support the UN's coordination function. This role is particularly suited for those who are currently enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program or are recent graduates. The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week for a duration of six months. Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to significant projects, including the Common Country Analysis and the UN Cooperation Framework, while developing their research and analytical skills.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: contributing to the UN coordination function by providing support to UN coordination mechanisms and UNCT activities; conducting independent research and providing inputs to reports and analyses; assisting in the finalization of the Common Country Analysis and the UN Cooperation Framework by compiling and synthesizing inputs, identifying data sources, and preparing visual materials; supporting policy work by preparing briefing and presentation materials; developing and updating databases; drafting talking points and inputs for speeches; facilitating meetings and events; and completing other ad hoc tasks as requested by the office or supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program, or in the final year of a Bachelor's program, or have graduated within the last year from a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the values and principles of the United Nations.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should be pursuing or have completed a degree in economics, development studies, finance, or a related field. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of development finance and the economic challenges faced by countries.
Experience: While prior work experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships or volunteer work in economics, development, or related fields will be considered an asset. The internship is primarily aimed at students or recent graduates looking to gain practical experience in the UN system.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also necessary, as it is another working language.
