The program begins with a one-week orientation to familiarize interns with UNU's operations and their colleagues, ensuring they are well-prepared for their roles. Junior Fellows can expect to gain valuable work experience while actively contributing to UNU's mission.
Duties and Responsibilities: Junior Fellows will engage in various initiatives that provide insight into UNU's operations. Their responsibilities include conducting administrative research and writing for institutional development, preparing executive briefs on priority issues, drafting topical information briefs to support internal policy development, and assisting in project management planning. They will also utilize analytical tools, such as Microsoft Excel, to conduct internal analyses of university operations. Additionally, Junior Fellows will support the organization of in-person and online events, coordinate meetings, provide logistical support, proofread reports, and prepare communication documents such as newsletters and event summaries.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be currently pursuing or have recently completed postgraduate studies (master’s or doctoral) in a field related to UNU's work. They should be under 32 years of age at the time of application and have no more than 5 years of work experience in their related field. A native or fluent command of written and spoken English is essential, along with excellent research, writing, and analytical skills. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse individuals, exhibit resourcefulness and creativity in problem-solving, and possess advanced computer skills, particularly in MS Office applications. A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and UNU is also required.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have a postgraduate degree (master’s or doctoral) in a relevant field, preferably one that aligns with the mission and work of the United Nations University. This educational background should ideally be complemented by a strong understanding of global issues and the workings of international organizations.
Experience: Candidates should have limited professional experience, specifically no more than 5 years in a related field. This internship is particularly suited for graduate students or recent graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in a UN agency and enhance their understanding of international relations and development.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within UNU. While not required, proficiency in French is considered an asset, especially for candidates who may be selected to work at the UNU Office in Paris.

Junior Fellows will work full-time during regular university hours (9:30–17:30, Monday to Friday) and are entitled to 1.5 days of leave per month. A monthly stipend will be provided to assist with living costs, and interns will have access to UNU's library and gym facilities.
