Job Overview: The M&E and Communications Officer will play a crucial role in the Harare Sustainable City Initiative (HSCI) project, which aims to enhance the living conditions of citizens in Harare, particularly the urban and peri-urban poor. This position involves developing, managing, and strengthening monitoring and evaluation (M&E) efforts to ensure the project meets its objectives. The officer will also oversee communication activities to promote the project's visibility and impact. The role requires a strategic approach to M&E and communication, ensuring that the project's achievements are effectively documented and shared with stakeholders. The officer will work closely with project managers, beneficiaries, and partners to assess the project's impact and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities: The M&E and Communications Officer will be responsible for implementing robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks in compliance with UN-Habitat guidelines. Key duties include designing M&E processes to measure the project's effects, providing recommendations for improving project management, developing detailed evaluation plans, and engaging with beneficiaries to assess project sustainability. The officer will also lead the development of an indicator tracking table and produce high-quality project reports. In terms of communication, the officer will plan and implement strategies to promote the HSCI project, produce project snapshots and capability statements, create content for social media, and cover awareness campaigns. The role requires strong analytical skills to document key learnings and success stories from the project.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in international development, sociology, business management, journalism, or a related field. Alternatively, a first degree with at least two years of relevant experience will be accepted. A minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in M&E and communications for development or humanitarian organizations is required. Knowledge of graphic design and multimedia content creation is desirable, along with strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for preparing reports, delivering presentations, and facilitating workshops effectively.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as international development, sociology, business management, or journalism. Candidates with a first degree and relevant experience may also be considered. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of development projects and effectively communicating their outcomes.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience in monitoring and evaluation and communications within development or humanitarian contexts. Languages: Fluency in written and oral English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. A working knowledge of Shona is desirable, which would enhance communication with local stakeholders and beneficiaries.
