The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat, established to promote sustainable and inclusive development and regional connectivity in the Asia and Pacific region. ESCAP supports its member states through policy-oriented research, normative support, technical assistance, and capacity building to address the development priorities and changing needs of the region. The Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM), based in Beijing, China, is part of ESCAP and focuses on enhancing technical cooperation among member states through knowledge sharing, research, and development in sustainable agricultural mechanization and technology, aiming to achieve internationally agreed development goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Job Overview:

Duties and Responsibilities:

The specific responsibilities will depend on the intern's background and the duration of the internship, allowing for a tailored experience that can enhance their skills and knowledge in the field of sustainable development and agricultural mechanization.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). This ensures that candidates have a solid academic foundation to contribute effectively to the work of ESCAP.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes either a graduate degree or being in the final year of an undergraduate program. This requirement is designed to attract candidates who are academically prepared to engage with complex issues related to sustainable development and agricultural practices.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates should possess a strong interest in sustainable development, agricultural mechanization, or related fields. Any previous internships or volunteer work in similar areas would be beneficial and enhance the candidate's application.

Fluency in English is required for the internship programme, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
