Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in strengthening the fundraising and engagement efforts of the Land, Housing and Shelter Section. This position is essential for enhancing the resources mobilization efforts to expand the portfolio related to housing, land, and slums. The consultant will report directly to the Chief of the Land, Housing and Shelter Section at UN-Habitat HQ in Nairobi, Kenya, and will collaborate closely with relevant UN-Habitat colleagues and external partners to deliver key outputs. The consultant's primary responsibilities will include conducting assessments to identify funding opportunities, analyzing donor trends, and developing project documents to secure funding.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct assessments to identify existing and potential funding opportunities that align with the goals of the Land, Housing and Shelter Section.
Analyze donor trends and partnership landscapes to ensure alignment with UN-Habitat and LHS priorities.
Identify key current and emerging donors, including UN funds, joint funds, governments, philanthropic organizations, and private sector partners.
Explore innovative financing mechanisms and non-traditional funding sources to diversify funding streams.
Identify opportunities for joint resource mobilization with other UN entities to enhance collaborative efforts.
Develop and submit at least 10 concept notes and/or project documents to potential donors to secure funding for various initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as International Relations, Development and Urban Studies, Economics, Business Administration, Housing, Land Management, Urban Planning, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in resource mobilization, donor relations, or partnerships development is required. Proven experience in strategy development and donor engagement, preferably within the UN system or an international financing institution, is desirable. Experience in programming related to housing, basic services, land management, and related issues in lower- and middle-income countries is preferred.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as International Relations, Development and Urban Studies, Economics, Business Administration, Housing, Land Management, Urban Planning, or a related field is mandatory for this position. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of resource mobilization and donor engagement in the context of housing and land management.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in resource mobilization, donor relations, or partnerships development. Candidates should have proven experience in strategy development and donor engagement, ideally within the UN system or an international financing institution. Experience in programming related to housing, basic services, land management, and related issues in lower- and middle-income countries is preferred, indicating a need for a strong understanding of the challenges faced in these contexts.
Languages: Fluency in both spoken and written English is required for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Proficiency in French is also necessary, as it is another working language of the UN. Additionally, proficiency in any other official UN language is considered an asset, which may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and partners.
