Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The position is located within the Enterprise Resource Planning Solution Division (ERPSD) of the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance and the Department of Operational Support (DMSPC) at the United Nations. The organization is dedicated to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the UN's operations through the Umoja project, which aims to transform service delivery by leveraging technology and harmonizing practices across the organization. Job Overview:
The Associate Information Systems Officer will play a crucial role in the implementation and support of information systems within the UN. This position involves working closely with a Senior Information Systems Officer to prepare user requirements, assist in system design and development, and provide operational support for data security and integrity. The officer will also be responsible for developing project plans, schedules, and budgets, as well as monitoring project risks and ensuring quality assurance for deliverables. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders. Additionally, the officer will be involved in training users and preparing documentation, making this position integral to the success of the Umoja project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Associate Information Systems Officer include: preparing user requirements and technical specifications; assisting in the design, development, testing, and rollout of technical services; conducting complex systems analysis; providing operational support for data security; developing and maintaining project plans and budgets; identifying resources for project completion; monitoring project risks; writing programs to interface with existing systems; developing disaster recovery plans; maintaining system documentation; tracking SAP software performance; drafting training materials; conducting training sessions; analyzing data for trends; participating in technology assessments; preparing written outputs; providing support for meetings and conferences; and performing ad hoc duties as required. The officer may also provide guidance to junior staff.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of systems analysis and design techniques, testing, debugging, and documentation standards, as well as database design. Professionalism, effective communication, planning and organizing skills, and technological awareness are essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a commitment to gender equality and inclusivity in the workplace, reflecting the UN's values.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in similar fields combined with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in planning, designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining computer information systems or related areas is required. Candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP) or the G to P Examination (G to P) are exempt from this experience requirement. Experience with SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and in data analytics or report preparation is desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, is considered an advantage and may enhance a candidate's profile.
