Job Overview: The Programme Analyst for Youth Empowerment & Engagement will play a pivotal role in analyzing and assessing political, social, and economic trends that impact UNFPA's programs in Ghana. This position involves guiding and facilitating the delivery of UNFPA programs, including project formulation and evaluation, as well as joint programming initiatives. The analyst will report to the UNFPA Programme Specialist for Adolescents, Youth, and Development and will be responsible for supporting the effective management of UNFPA activities related to youth empowerment and engagement. This includes providing technical advice, managing policy and advocacy work, and ensuring that programming is aligned with national priorities and the UNFPA strategic plan for 2022-202
The role requires a commitment to addressing the needs of vulnerable populations, including women and young people, and ensuring that programming is responsive to emerging trends and challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Analyst will be responsible for a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
Managing the implementation of UNFPA's youth empowerment and engagement programs in accordance with the Country Programme Document (CPD) 2023-202
Providing technical advice and support to ensure high-quality programming that meets the needs of vulnerable populations.
Leading policy and advocacy efforts related to youth empowerment and engagement, collaborating with relevant staff and management teams.
Monitoring and evaluating program results, ensuring adherence to systems and procedures, and making recommendations for enhancements.
Engaging in resource mobilization efforts to secure funding and support for youth-related initiatives.
Collaborating with other programs and projects focused on sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and population dynamics.
Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor in consultation with management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced degree in health, population, demography, or a related social science discipline. Additionally, candidates should have a strong understanding of development and population activities, particularly in the context of program/project management. Experience in managing large multi-sector projects, designing proposals, and liaising with project partners is essential. Practical experience in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of development projects is also required, with field experience considered an asset. Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, cloud applications, and web-based ERP management systems is necessary.
Educational Background: An advanced degree in health, population, demography, or a related social science discipline is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of youth empowerment and engagement within the context of UNFPA's mission and objectives.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of professional experience in the field of development and population activities, with a focus on program/project management. This experience should include working on large multi-sector projects, designing and appraising proposals, and actively engaging with relevant project partners. Prior experience within the UN system is considered an asset, as is practical experience in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of development projects.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official UN languages, particularly French, is desirable and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.
