Job Overview:
The Strategy Office of the Foundation plays a crucial role in supporting the development and evolution of program-level strategies, as well as exploring new avenues for impact that align with the organization's mission. The Strategy Officers will lead high-impact projects in collaboration with senior program leadership, managing a project team that includes 1-2 associates from the Foundation Strategy Office (FSO). The role involves providing thought partnership, project management, and analytical support to clients across the Foundation. The Strategy Officers will be responsible for scoping and designing the overall strategy development process, leading strategy development as the primary accountable party for one or more workstreams, and employing strategic resources to assess options and challenge assumptions. This position requires effective communication and relationship management skills to engage partners and facilitate change management, as well as the ability to implement creative solutions to guide group processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Strategy Officer will be responsible for a variety of duties including: scoping and designing the overall strategy development process; leading strategy development as the primary accountable party for one or more workstreams; employing strategic resources to develop and assess options; consulting closely with internal clients to co-develop and evaluate strategy concepts; engaging partners using effective communication and relationship management skills; supporting the implementation of creative solutions; contributing to research and analytical work to support decision-making; providing project management and problem-solving support; and contributing to team development initiatives such as professional development, training, and team social events. The role may also involve end-to-end support in developing and launching new foundation strategies and spearheading cross-cutting strategy initiatives sponsored by the foundation’s Executive Leadership Team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong ability to learn new content quickly, identify connections and implications, and demonstrate proficiency in working with internal and external teams. A broad understanding of global health and development issues, along with some relevant experience, is desired. Candidates should have demonstrated strength in structured problem solving and strategic business planning, with the ability to communicate frameworks effectively. Deep knowledge of strategy development and complex project management is essential, as well as experience with strategy implementation, measurement, review, and refinement. The ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet demanding timelines is crucial, along with the capacity to question and challenge colleagues constructively. Excellent organizational, facilitation, oral, and written communication skills are required, as well as the ability to work sensitively across cultural and language barriers.

Educational Background:
A minimum of an MBA or other advanced degree in a relevant field such as Business, Engineering, or Sciences is desired for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding complex strategic issues and developing effective solutions.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience, with at least three years in strategic planning functions leading projects at a top-tier strategy consulting firm. This level of experience is essential for understanding the complexities of strategy development and implementation within a nonprofit context.

Languages:
While there are no specific language requirements mentioned, proficiency in English is mandatory given the nature of the role and the need for effective communication across diverse teams. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly in relation to the global nature of the Foundation's work.

The position may require travel up to 20% domestically and internationally. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship. The salary range for this role is between $169,700 to $254,500 USD, with specific ranges for Seattle and Washington D.C. locations being $185,000 to $277,400 USD. The organization aims to balance competitive pay with its mission, and new hires are typically placed within the salary range based on their skills, experience, and expertise as evaluated during the interview process. Additionally, employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
