Job Overview: The Director of the Cities Program for WRI Mexico is responsible for defining and implementing the strategic direction for urban projects in Mexico, focusing on mobility, urban development, water, green infrastructure, and air quality. This role requires coordination across various thematic areas within the organization to promote joint projects and leverage funding opportunities. The director will also engage with global city initiatives and contribute to the overall growth and sustainability of urban projects in Latin America. The position demands a strong leadership presence, strategic thinking, and the ability to foster synergies among different teams to achieve the program's objectives effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop a comprehensive urban strategy for WRI Mexico across all technical areas of responsibility.
Coordinate with leaders of each thematic area to ensure that projects are executed with quality, on time, and within scope.
Play a key leadership role in responding to the global director of the Cities Program to define strategic aspirations for WRI across Latin America.
Develop a global urban strategy for various areas, including urban development, mobility, air quality, and green infrastructure.
Contribute to and support fundraising efforts for projects, while actively seeking new funding opportunities.
Foster programmatic synergies that drive joint projects.
Collaborate with global initiatives to support project growth.
Ensure effective communication and collaboration among multidisciplinary teams.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in urban development and planning, mobility, transportation engineering, architecture, public policy, or related fields.
A master's degree in one of the mentioned areas is desirable.
8 to 12 years of progressive experience in relevant fields, with at least 6 years in leadership roles managing technical teams.
Proven experience in fundraising for technical projects and a deep understanding of public policy issues.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in urban development and planning, mobility, transportation engineering, architecture, public policy, or similar disciplines. A master's degree in any of these areas is highly desirable and will be considered an asset in the selection process.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have between 8 to 12 years of relevant experience, with a significant portion of that time spent in leadership positions overseeing technical teams. A minimum of 6 years in leadership roles is required, demonstrating the ability to manage and guide teams effectively. Experience in fundraising for technical projects and a comprehensive understanding of public policy are essential. Candidates should also have solid financial management experience related to project execution and, preferably, experience working in non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, and advanced proficiency in English is also required. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages is crucial for collaboration and project execution.
