Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNFPA is crucial for providing reliable and safe transportation services to the Country Office. Reporting to the HR & Admin Associate, the Driver is expected to uphold high standards of discretion and integrity while demonstrating a client-oriented approach. The role requires excellent knowledge of protocol and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security issues, as well as the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. The Driver will be responsible for transporting UNFPA staff, high-ranking officials, and visitors, ensuring timely and safe arrivals at meetings and events. Additionally, the Driver will manage vehicle maintenance, keep daily logs, and assist with administrative duties as needed, contributing to the overall efficiency of the office.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver's primary responsibilities include:
  • Providing reliable and safe driving services for UNFPA staff and visitors, including high-ranking officials.
  • Managing all aspects of vehicle maintenance, including conducting minor repairs, cleaning, and arranging for major repairs.
  • Keeping daily vehicle logs and assisting in the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and history reports.
  • Ensuring knowledge of traffic, road, and security issues to facilitate safe and timely arrivals.
  • Adhering to UNFPA and UNDSS safety rules and regulations, especially in the event of an accident.
  • Engaging in office trainings and workshops for professional growth.
  • Keeping track of insurance and tax formalities related to the vehicle.
  • Acting as a translator in the local language for official passengers when necessary.

  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor, including assisting with general administrative tasks.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid driver's license with at least 5 years of driving experience. A minimum of three years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system is required, along with a proven safe driving record. Candidates should have impeccable knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol, local roads, and defensive driving skills. Skills in minor vehicle repairs are essential, and similar experience in another international agency or diplomatic mission is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is completed secondary level education. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities and duties associated with the role of a driver in an international organization.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience as a driver, particularly within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. This experience should demonstrate a safe driving record and familiarity with the operational protocols of such environments.

Languages:
Candidates must have a good command of written and spoken English and Kinyarwanda. Basic knowledge of French is considered an added advantage, enhancing communication capabilities within the diverse environment of UNFPA.
