The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (RCO) play a crucial role in supporting countries to meet their development priorities under the leadership of the UN Resident Coordinator, who is the highest-ranking UN official in the country. Job Overview: The Partnerships Officer position is integral to the UN Resident Coordination Office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The role focuses on providing substantive support for strategic planning and coordination of UN Country Team (UNCT) partnerships. The officer will be responsible for developing and implementing the UN Partnership Strategy, monitoring its effectiveness, and identifying opportunities for improvement. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government entities, international organizations, and private sector partners, to enhance resource mobilization efforts and support the achievement of the SDGs. The officer will also engage in knowledge management and capacity development initiatives to strengthen the UNCT's ability to foster partnerships and mobilize resources effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Partnerships Officer will perform a variety of duties, including:
Providing substantive support for the development and implementation of the UN Partnership Strategy, ensuring alignment with the UNDAF.
Monitoring and assessing the strategy to identify emerging opportunities and necessary adjustments.
Supporting the Resident Coordinator and UNCT in identifying risks and opportunities related to partnerships and suggesting mitigation measures.
Preparing inputs on due diligence processes for potential investment and partnership opportunities.
Assisting in the development of locally-tailored partnerships and resource mobilization strategies.
Contributing to dialogues with partners to improve development assistance policies.
Participating in joint resource mobilization efforts for the UNDAF, including monitoring existing partnerships.
Supporting knowledge management and capacity development initiatives to enhance the UNCT's effectiveness in resource mobilization.
Analyzing trends and providing insights on financing mechanisms for SDG acceleration. 1
Engaging with external stakeholders on financing for development and assisting in the management of the country-based SDG Fund.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of sustainable development theories and concepts, with the ability to analyze data and make informed recommendations. The role requires excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, planning and organizing skills, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities. A commitment to gender equality and the inclusion of diverse perspectives in all areas of work is essential.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, sustainable development, social sciences, education, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Successful completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is considered an advantage.
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in providing strategic support to partnerships, project/programme management, resource mobilization, or development finance is required. Experience in data analytics or related fields is desirable, as is working experience in the United Nations or similar organizations, particularly in inter-agency coordination and programming. Experience in supporting financing for SDGs is also advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position, as these are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable, as it can enhance communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a Temporary Job Opening for a duration of 364 days, with no expectation of renewal. The position is open only to nationals of the United Arab Emirates. National Professional Officers must have a national context, requiring knowledge of the local language, culture, and systems. If no suitable local candidates are found, UAE nationals residing elsewhere may be considered, but they will be responsible for relocation costs.
