Job Overview: The Analyst position within the Environment & Sustainability department (ESD) is pivotal in supporting the Bank's commitments under its Environmental and Social Policy. The role involves engaging with various banking teams and departments to ensure compliance with environmental and social standards across the Bank's portfolio. The Analyst will be responsible for conducting assessments, monitoring, and reporting on environmental and social impacts, as well as contributing to the development of methodologies and strategies that align with the Bank's sustainability goals. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying risks and opportunities related to environmental and social issues, ensuring that the Bank's projects not only meet regulatory requirements but also contribute positively to sustainable development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Analyst will work under the general direction of the Head of Sector/Policy/Monitoring/Assurance and will be involved in a variety of projects and initiatives. Key responsibilities include: supporting the assessment of compliance with the Environmental and Social Policy (ESP), evaluating environmental and social risks and impacts, and identifying opportunities for climate and nature risk management. The Analyst will conduct research, review relevant documents, and perform analytical and technical reviews to support the Bank's objectives. Additionally, the role involves developing methodologies for monitoring outputs and outcomes, managing data, and drafting publications for both internal and external audiences. The Analyst will also coordinate meetings and events as needed and contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes related to data management and reporting.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a degree in environmental and/or social sciences, economics, engineering, or a related field, or have comparable professional experience. A strong understanding of environmental and social risks, as well as familiarity with international standards and guidelines, is essential. Knowledge of financing instruments and approaches is advantageous, along with an understanding of the scientific, economic, and political dimensions of environmental and social issues. Effective time management, organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are crucial for success in this role. Strong research and analytical skills, along with excellent written and spoken English, are mandatory. Familiarity with a language of the EBRD countries of operations is a plus, and fluency in a local language is required for resident office appointments.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in environmental and/or social sciences, economics, engineering, or a related field is required. Candidates with comparable professional experience may also be considered. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in understanding environmental and social issues, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge to the assessment of investment projects.
