Job Posting Organization:
The position is located within the Investigations Division (ID) of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) in Vienna. OIOS serves as the internal oversight body of the United Nations, assisting the Secretary-General in fulfilling oversight responsibilities regarding the resources and staff of the Organization. The office provides audit, investigation, inspection, and evaluation services. The Investigations Division specifically investigates reports of possible violations of rules, regulations, mismanagement, misconduct, waste of resources, and abuse of authority.

Job Overview:
The Investigations Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the planning, organization, and execution of investigations into alleged violations of United Nations rules and regulations. This position requires the assistant to engage in fact-finding missions to gather information, establish evidence, and produce reports based on the findings. The role also involves coordinating with various United Nations and relevant authorities throughout the investigation process, preparing flow charts and chronologies, and assisting in the documentation of investigative findings. The assistant will provide general office support, including drafting and finalizing correspondence, maintaining records, and scheduling meetings. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities related to data collection and analysis, preparation of presentations, and updating informational materials. The Investigations Assistant must be adaptable and ready to perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the Investigations Division.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Investigations Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: assisting in the planning and organization of investigations; conducting fact-finding to identify information and establish evidence; producing and submitting reports based on findings; coordinating with United Nations and other relevant authorities; preparing flow charts and chronologies; drafting and finalizing correspondence; maintaining files and records; scheduling appointments and meetings; assisting with the Hotline Duty roster; initiating new matters into the Division's case management system; monitoring and tracking the implementation of OIOS recommendations; drafting annual and semi-annual reports; responding to requests from intergovernmental bodies; collecting and analyzing data; preparing data presentations and reports; updating information materials; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in police, military, governmental, non-governmental, or private organizations is required, particularly in administration supporting investigations. Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, such as SAP, is desirable, as is experience working as part of an investigative team and using analytical or investigative software. Additionally, at least one year of experience in data analytics or a related area is desirable.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent. There are no specific job-related qualifications listed beyond this educational requirement.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in relevant fields such as police, military, governmental, non-governmental, or private organizations. This experience should include administrative support for investigations. Desirable experience includes working with ERP software, being part of an investigative team, and utilizing analytical or investigative software. Experience in data analytics or related areas for at least one year is also preferred.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered desirable. Fluency is defined as being rated 'fluent' in all four areas: reading, writing, speaking, and understanding, while knowledge is defined as being rated 'confident' in two of the four areas.

This position is financed by the Support Account for Peacekeeping Operations and is subject to the availability of funds and budgetary approval. The appointment is for an initial period of one year, and staff members are expected to adhere to the authority of the Secretary-General.
