Job Overview:
The Engineer position at MINURSO involves applying professional engineering knowledge and expertise to manage various engineering projects and operational support for the mission. The role requires the incumbent to engage in the design, construction, and repair of critical infrastructure such as buildings, roads, and energy systems. The Engineer will be responsible for developing plans, conducting site investigations, preparing design layouts using CAD, and estimating costs for repairs and new projects. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration with other engineers and mission specialists to ensure project objectives are met efficiently and effectively. The Engineer will also be involved in the implementation of renewable energy systems and will play a key role in enhancing the mission's operational capabilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Engineer will undertake a variety of responsibilities including: applying engineering calculations and practices to complete projects; developing plans and specifications for engineering projects; conducting site investigations to gather necessary data; preparing design layouts using CAD; estimating costs for repairs and new constructions; liaising with other engineers to resolve issues; supervising the installation of photovoltaic hybrid systems; preparing Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and cost estimates; analyzing project proposals for technical feasibility; performing technical reviews of tender documents; conducting research on new technical systems; collecting and analyzing data for decision-making; and performing other related duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong foundation in engineering principles and practices, with proven ability to manage complex engineering projects. The role requires a high level of technical expertise, particularly in electrical and mechanical engineering. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. The position also requires effective communication skills to convey technical information clearly to various stakeholders.

Educational Background:
A master's degree or equivalent in civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree with two years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a master's degree. Additional certifications in project management methodologies such as PMP or PRINCE2 are desirable, as well as completion of programs in data analytics or related fields.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in engineering project management, with specific experience in electrical and mechanical systems engineering. At least three years of experience in drafting technical documents and preparing complex scopes of work for electro-mechanical works is required. Experience in the design and installation of renewable energy systems is also essential, along with familiarity with engineering design software such as CAD. Additional experience in safety and security installations or data analytics is considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required for this position. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as both languages are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

This position is temporarily available for an initial period of six months, with the possibility of extension.
