Job Overview: The Health, Safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Officer position is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of NRC staff, beneficiaries, and assets in Kosti, Sudan. The officer will be responsible for implementing NRC's safety and security policies at the area office level, conducting regular security and risk assessments, and training staff on safety and security protocols. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying safety needs and responding to security threats. The officer will also facilitate staff hibernation, relocation, and evacuation during emergencies, ensuring that all necessary safety equipment is available and in good condition. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with various stakeholders, including UN agencies and local NGOs, to gather security information and enhance the overall safety environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Health, Safety and Security Officer will have a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: adhering to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines; implementing NRC’s safety and security policies at the Area Office level; conducting regular security and risk assessments to identify safety and security needs; training staff in safety and security and providing regular briefings and updates; immediately reporting all breaches of safety and security procedures and all threats to NRC staff, beneficiaries, activities, or assets; facilitating staff hibernation, relocation, and evacuation in emergency situations; supervising, training, and developing eventual security staff at the office level; liaising with UN agencies, NGOs, and other external actors to gain security information; ensuring vehicle and staff movements are monitored according to procedures; preparing security updates and reports as required; and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the local security context to inform NRC's operational decisions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree and have a minimum of 4 years of previous experience in the field of Health, Safety, and Security (HSS). Experience working in complex and volatile contexts, particularly in Sudan, is essential. The candidate should have technical HSS expertise relevant to the role and documented results related to the position’s responsibilities. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and Arabic are mandatory. The organization is particularly looking for a positive individual who can confidently navigate various levels of interaction both internally and externally.
Educational Background: A university degree is required for this position, ideally in a field related to health, safety, security, or a similar discipline. The educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding the complexities of safety and security in humanitarian contexts, particularly in challenging environments like Sudan.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in health, safety, and security roles, with a strong preference for candidates who have worked in complex and volatile contexts. Languages: Fluency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
