Job Overview: The National Consultant - Editor and Graphic Designer position is a critical role within the UNDP Gambia office, focusing on enhancing communication and outreach efforts through high-quality editorial and graphic design work. The consultant will be responsible for producing visually appealing and informative materials that effectively communicate UNDP's initiatives and projects. This role requires a blend of creativity and technical skills to ensure that all outputs align with UNDP's branding and messaging standards. The consultant will work closely with various teams to understand their needs and translate them into compelling visual content. The assignment is expected to last for 45 working days, during which the consultant will deliver a range of products, including reports, brochures, and digital content, aimed at engaging stakeholders and the public.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the National Consultant - Editor and Graphic Designer include but are not limited to:
Collaborating with UNDP teams to gather information and understand the objectives of various projects.
Developing and designing high-quality editorial content, including reports, articles, and promotional materials.
Creating visually appealing graphics and layouts that adhere to UNDP branding guidelines.
Editing and proofreading documents to ensure clarity, coherence, and accuracy.
Managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
Providing creative input and suggestions for improving communication strategies.
Ensuring all materials are produced in a timely manner and are of the highest quality.
Engaging with stakeholders to gather feedback and make necessary revisions to materials.
Staying updated on design trends and best practices to enhance the quality of outputs.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a set of qualifications that include:
Proven experience in editorial work and graphic design, preferably in a development or international organization context.
Strong portfolio showcasing previous work in graphic design and editorial content.
Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and other relevant tools.
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Familiarity with UNDP's mission and values is an advantage.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree in graphic design, communications, journalism, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas will be considered an asset. A strong educational background will enhance the candidate's ability to perform effectively in this role.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 3-5 years of professional experience in editorial and graphic design roles. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of development, is highly desirable. The candidate should demonstrate a track record of producing high-quality content and designs that meet organizational standards and objectives.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communication and documentation will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly local languages spoken in Gambia, would be considered a valuable asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
