Job Overview: The Programme Management Officer position is located within the Performance Monitoring and Reporting (PMR) Unit of the Policy and Programme Division at UNEP's Nairobi Duty Station. Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in development, environmental studies, or a related social science field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Successful completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is desirable, indicating a strong foundation in data management and analysis.
Experience: A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in programme/project management within environment or development-oriented work is required. Candidates should have experience working across the programme/project management cycle and in drafting and editing official reports in English. Desirable experience includes data analysis and synthesis, familiarity with the UN system or similar international organizations, and involvement in developing and implementing business review processes and strategic plans. Two or more years of experience in data analytics or related areas is also desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French or any other United Nations language is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a multilingual environment. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas (reading, writing, speaking, understanding), while knowledge is rated as 'confident' in two of the four areas.
