Job Overview: The Programme Associate (VAM) position is crucial for supporting the implementation of assessments and targeting in line with WFP's Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (VAM) policies. The role involves working under the supervision of the Head of Research Assessment and Monitoring and the VAM Officer. The Programme Associate will be responsible for participating in vulnerability assessments, food security, and nutrition assessments, contributing to the development of systems and tools for monitoring food security and nutrition. This position requires a strong analytical background, as the associate will engage in data analysis using statistical software and will be involved in creating information products and dashboards to facilitate knowledge sharing. The role is designed for individuals who are passionate about humanitarian work and have a strong commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Associate (VAM) will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: supporting the heads of RAM and VAM in the implementation of assessments and targeting; participating in vulnerability assessments and food security and nutrition assessments; developing systems and tools for monitoring food security and nutrition; conducting data analysis using SPSS, STATA, or R; creating information products and dashboards; maintaining and improving existing databases and knowledge management platforms; providing technical support to WFP staff and government counterparts; and ensuring that age and gender considerations are integrated into all activities. The associate will also be responsible for compiling and cleaning spatial and non-spatial data, updating spatial data infrastructure, and matching area codes with attribute information.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in economics, agriculture, social sciences, development studies, statistics, or a related field. Additionally, they should have at least 6 years of experience in food security and nutrition-related data collection and analysis, with proficiency in statistical software such as SPSS, STATA, R, and GIS. Experience with visualization software (Python, R, Power BI, Tableau) and strong database knowledge (SQL, MS Access) is also required. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to work on multiple projects simultaneously while collaborating with diverse teams.
Educational Background: A university degree in a relevant field such as economics, agriculture, social sciences, development studies, or statistics is essential for this position. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in data analysis, research methodologies, and the principles of food security and nutrition.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in food security and nutrition data collection and analysis. Candidates should have a proven track record of utilizing statistical software for data analysis and should be familiar with various assessment methodologies related to food security. Experience in interacting with partners and stakeholders on food security issues is also necessary, along with demonstrated proficiency in statistical tools and methods for food security analysis.
Languages: Strong written and oral communication skills in both Lao and English are mandatory for this position. Additional Notes: The position is a Service Contract (SC) with a duty station in Vientiane, Laos, and has a duration of one year with the possibility of extension.
