UN-Habitat's Urban Practices Branch (UPB) is responsible for developing tools and methodologies to support urban practices, while the Planning, Finance & Economy Section (PFES) focuses on urban and territorial planning, policy development, and local economic development.

Job Overview:
The Field Coordinator will play a crucial role in the implementation of the Second Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP2), specifically focusing on enhancing partnerships and collaboration among various stakeholders, including counties, municipalities, UN agencies, NGOs, civil society, and refugee-led organizations. The position requires providing technical support for training and capacity-building activities, assisting in the identification, planning, design, and implementation of Urban Development Grant (UDG) projects, and conducting field reporting on engagements with government, community, and partners. The Field Coordinator will be expected to lead the coordination of technical assistance activities at the county and municipal levels, ensuring alignment with the urban development objectives of KUSP2.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Coordinator will be responsible for leading the coordination of technical assistance activities in the field, supporting county governments and municipal boards in urban development objectives. Key responsibilities include providing technical support for the implementation of Urban Institutional Grants (UIG) and UDG activities, assisting in the integration of refugee issues into County Urban Institutional Development Plans, and supporting the establishment of inclusive municipal governance systems. The role also involves facilitating stakeholder engagement, conducting capacity-building training, and mobilizing stakeholders for participatory planning workshops. The Field Coordinator will report directly to the Senior Programme Management Officer/Project Manager and will interact with various sections within UN-Habitat and external partners.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in civil engineering, architecture, urban/town planning, environmental science, sustainable development, community development, land surveying/management, urban/land economy, economics, or related fields. A Master's degree or equivalent in relevant areas can reduce the required years of work experience by two years. The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in providing technical support to infrastructure projects, project management, community-based development, or coordination in development cooperation. Experience in data analytics or related fields is desirable, along with proven ability to work in multi-agency settings and engage with devolved government structures.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a first-level university degree in relevant fields such as civil engineering, architecture, urban planning, environmental science, sustainable development, community development, land surveying/management, urban/land economy, or economics. Candidates with a Master's degree in these areas will have a reduced experience requirement, highlighting the importance of advanced education in this role.

Experience:
The Field Coordinator position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in relevant fields, including technical support for infrastructure projects, project management, and community-based development. Candidates with a Master's degree may have this requirement reduced by two years. Experience in data analytics is desirable, as well as a background in working within multi-agency settings and engaging with devolved government structures. Experience in hardship environments and within the United Nations System or similar organizations is also considered advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both verbal and written, is mandatory for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of other UN languages is desirable, and basic knowledge of Kiswahili is considered an asset, reflecting the multilingual environment of the UN and the local context in Kenya.
