Job Overview: The Finance Specialist position at DRC is designed for an experienced and enthusiastic professional who will play a crucial role in the finance unit in Georgia. The primary responsibility of the Finance Specialist is to ensure smooth, effective, and efficient operations in finance. This includes providing overall advice, coordination, and technical support to the finance teams in the region, ensuring compliance with DRC’s Operations Handbook, and reinforcing existing procedures and systems for financial management and control. The Finance Specialist will also be responsible for the timely delivery of quality financial reports to donors and internal reports to colleagues and HQ, ensuring compliance with relevant country statutory and other financial obligations. The role requires a collaborative approach, as the Finance Specialist will liaise with relevant managers on key financial issues and contribute to the development of proposals regarding budgeting in cooperation with managers.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Finance Specialist will undertake a variety of tasks and responsibilities, including but not limited to: acting as a specialist in finance within the region, providing advice and technical support to finance teams, ensuring compliance with DRC’s Operations Handbook, and supporting financial management and control procedures. The role involves ensuring timely delivery of quality financial reports, compliance with statutory obligations, acting as the timesheet focal point, registering expenses in DRC Dynamics, controlling monthly logbooks, reconciling bank and cash statements, conducting monthly financial briefings, maintaining budgetary control, collecting cash forecasts, overseeing funding levels, preparing documentation for financial audits, and contributing to proposal development regarding budgeting. Additionally, the Finance Specialist will perform other duties as assigned by the line manager.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the Finance Specialist position, candidates must possess full professional fluency in both English and Georgian languages, as well as a comprehensive understanding of Georgian tax legislation. A university degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Management, or a related field is required. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience in a similar role, with experience in the NGO sector being desirable. Excellent computer skills, particularly advanced proficiency in Excel, are essential, and experience working with ERP systems would be an advantage.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a university degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Management, or another relevant field. This educational background is crucial for understanding the financial principles and practices necessary for the role of Finance Specialist.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of experience in a similar role, demonstrating a solid understanding of financial management and reporting. Experience in the NGO sector is considered an asset, as it provides familiarity with the unique financial challenges and requirements of non-profit organizations.
Languages: Full professional fluency in English and Georgian is mandatory for this position. This language proficiency is essential for effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an advantage but is not required.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position is a fixed-term contract until the end of 2025, with the possibility of extension subject to funding availability. The contract will include a probation period. The salary for this role is based on the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national staff, specifically within Salary Scale Band G, which ranges from 1018 to 1112 EURO net, depending on the successful candidate's individual skills and experience.
