Job Overview:
The Interior Design Intern position at UNON is a six-month unpaid internship located in Nairobi, Kenya. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Associate logistics-officer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Logistics Officer within the Facilities Management and Transport Section (FMTS) of the Division of Administrative Services (DAS). This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about design and eager to contribute to the UN's mission. Interns will engage in various design-related tasks, including creating mood boards, assisting with space planning, and developing presentations that showcase design concepts. The internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional environment while supporting the UN's objectives in Kenya. Interns are expected to work full-time, five days a week, collaborating closely with the design team and other stakeholders to ensure that projects are completed on time and meet the required standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Interior Design Intern include:
  • Design Support: Assisting in the creation of mood boards and styling concepts that align with specific project themes and client requirements.
  • Space Planning: Contributing to the development of layouts and furniture selection for office fit-outs and renovation projects.
  • Presentation and Visualization: Developing compelling presentations using 3D renderings, sketches, and layouts for client reviews and internal discussions. Preparing detailed color schemes, furniture specifications, and finishes schedules for renovations and office designs.
  • On-Site Collaboration: Participating in site visits to support design detailing and working with contractors and suppliers to ensure project timelines are met and the design vision is effectively implemented.
  • General Support: Assisting the design team with procurement tasks related to furniture and finishes for ongoing and upcoming projects.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application:
  • Enrollment in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Enrollment in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly Microsoft Office.
  • A demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
  • Ability to successfully interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, demonstrating tolerance and understanding of differing opinions and views.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in architecture or related fields. Applicants must be enrolled in a relevant academic program or have completed a degree that aligns with the internship's focus. The UN encourages candidates who have a strong foundation in design principles and practices, as well as those who are familiar with the UN's mission and values.

Experience:
No prior professional work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, applicants should have relevant training, education, or coursework that would benefit the UN during their internship. Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
