Job Overview: The position of Praktikant*in im Safeguards+Gender Desk involves supporting the Safeguards+Gender Management System (S+G System) which ensures the environmental and social compatibility of GIZ projects. This role is critical as it assesses potential unintended effects of project measures before they commence, analyzing both negative and positive impacts on various factors such as the environment, climate change mitigation and adaptation, conflict contexts, human rights, and gender equality. The intern will assist in the analysis procedures that new projects must undergo during their planning phase and provide advice on implementing protective and mitigation measures during project execution. This internship is an opportunity for individuals who wish to contribute to meaningful projects while developing their professional skills in a supportive environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: As an intern, you will be involved in various tasks including: contributing to the further development of the S+G System tools through research, data analysis, and improving templates; participating in and documenting discussions related to S+G management, particularly for projects with high risks of unintended negative impacts; preparing and following up on team workshops and meetings; integrating the S+G System into GIZ's internal knowledge management by systematically linking S+G content with related topics; addressing internal customer inquiries directed to the S+G Desk by systematically recording and distributing requests within the team; and assisting with other organizational and administrative tasks, including digital topics and processes.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have completed a Bachelor's degree related to one of the Safeguards areas, such as Political Science, Gender Studies, Environmental Sciences, Law, Peace and Conflict Studies, or similar fields. Initial exposure to approaches ensuring environmental and social compatibility and promoting gender equality is advantageous. The ideal candidate should have a keen interest in transforming complex information and processes into easily understandable texts and engaging presentations. Previous international experience in partner countries of German development cooperation is a plus. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate initiative, organizational talent, and a structured and precise working style.
Educational Background: A completed Bachelor's degree is required, with a focus on areas relevant to Safeguards, such as Political Science, Gender Studies, Environmental Sciences, Law, or Peace and Conflict Studies. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities involved in the Safeguards+Gender Desk's work.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some initial experience or exposure to environmental and social safeguards, as well as gender equality initiatives. While specific professional experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships or volunteer work in related fields will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in both German and English, both written and spoken, is mandatory. Knowledge of French or Spanish is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in diverse environments and with various stakeholders.

It is essential that candidates are currently enrolled in a study program that requires an internship or have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship.
