Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
ACAPS is an independent analysis provider established to support humanitarian workers, influencers, fundraisers, and donors in making better-informed decisions and responding effectively to disasters. The organization is dedicated to putting evidence at the heart of decision-making, collaborating with various partners across the humanitarian sector to provide independent analysis, deploy experts for assessments, and develop the capacity of humanitarian actors. ACAPS aims to produce reliable and timely data and rigorous analysis to enhance the effectiveness of humanitarian operations.

Job Overview:
The Senior Analyst will lead the ACAPS analysis process and provide strategic technical advice and support to the Protection Cluster in Afghanistan. This role involves supervising the planning, production, and quality of analytical products, contributing to the development of methodologies, and providing on-the-job training for analysts. The Senior Analyst will also engage in networking and partnerships to enhance the effectiveness of the Protection Cluster's strategies and support the overall mission of ACAPS in addressing humanitarian challenges in Afghanistan.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Analysis production and quality assurance (30%): Ensure effective planning, production, and timely delivery of analytical reports, coordinating resources and collaboration within the team. Lead the organization of data collection methodologies and review assessments to understand the information landscape.
  • Strategic and Technical Support to the Afghanistan Protection Cluster (30%): Provide high-level strategic guidance and support to the Protection Cluster, focusing on assessments and monitoring. Attend relevant meetings and forums.
  • Training and Capacity Sharing (20%): Organize and deliver specialized training sessions for national humanitarian workers on protection risks and analysis.
  • Line Management (10%): Manage the Information Analyst and consultants, promoting accountability and providing feedback.
  • Partnerships and Networking (10%): Develop networks for information sharing, represent ACAPS in meetings, and support donor engagement efforts.
  • Perform other duties as needed, including reviewing reports outside regular hours.

Required Qualifications:
  • Relevant Master's degree in humanitarian action, social sciences, international relations, public health, epidemiology, or similar.
  • Prior professional experience in the humanitarian sector, including research, analysis, information management, or advocacy.
  • Deep knowledge of protection coordination and gender issues, including analysis and monitoring principles.
  • Excellent understanding of Afghanistan's political, economic, and historical context.
  • Management experience, particularly in complex projects.
  • Strong analytical skills and clarity in written communication.
  • Experience in designing and conducting analysis in humanitarian contexts.
  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Proven experience working with civil society and local partners. 1
  • Fluent communication skills in English, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis software.

Educational Background:
A relevant Master's degree is required, preferably in fields such as humanitarian action, social sciences, international relations, public health, or epidemiology. This educational background should provide a strong foundation for understanding the complexities of humanitarian issues and the analytical skills necessary for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior professional experience in the humanitarian sector, particularly in roles related to research, analysis, information management, or advocacy. Experience working in a similar position within the Afghanistan context is highly valued, as is management experience in complex projects. Demonstrated analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex information are essential.

Languages:
Fluent written and oral communication skills in English are mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the Afghanistan context would be advantageous but is not explicitly required.
