Job Overview: The Social Behaviour Change and Communications (SBCC) Specialist will play a crucial role in the UNFPA's initiative 'Tolerância Zero! À Violência Baseada no Género', aimed at combating Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Mozambique. This position involves overseeing the implementation of SBCC activities, ensuring alignment with EU and UNFPA guidelines, and managing a team of communication officers. The specialist will be responsible for developing and executing communication strategies that promote gender-equitable social norms and provide access to quality services for women and girls affected by violence. The role requires collaboration with government entities, civil society, and media partners to effectively influence stakeholders and achieve the program's objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The SBCC Specialist will be responsible for strategic planning, implementation, and coordination of the SBCC strategy. Key duties include designing the strategy for GBV prevention, managing SBCC project activities, and ensuring compliance with UNFPA policies. The specialist will lead the establishment of a media network, coordinate the production of communication materials, and oversee the dissemination of information across various platforms. Additionally, the role involves fostering partnerships with media outlets and government agencies, developing evidence-based communication strategies, and ensuring the effective management of SBCC interventions. The specialist will also be tasked with identifying best practices and lessons learned to inform future initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in social and behavioral science, sociology, anthropology, psychology, education, communication, public relations, or a related field. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in social and behavior change, communication for development, or public advocacy is required. Experience in managing communication strategies related to GBV, gender, and adolescent sexual and reproductive health is highly desirable. Proven management experience and familiarity with EU-funded programs are also preferred.
Educational Background: An advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in relevant fields such as social and behavioral science, sociology, anthropology, psychology, education, communication, or public relations is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively address the complexities of social behavior change and communication in the context of gender-based violence.
Experience: The position requires at least five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in areas such as social and behavior change, communication for development, or public advocacy. Candidates should have experience in drafting and managing communication strategies and implementing related projects. Technical knowledge in GBV, gender issues, and adolescent sexual and reproductive health is highly desirable, along with proven management experience and familiarity with UN systems.
Languages: Fluency in English and Portuguese is mandatory for this position.
