Job Overview:
The Fundraising & Private Sector Specialist will play a crucial role in resource mobilization and donor engagement for IOM Hungary. This position involves developing and implementing strategies to diversify funding sources and secure financial support from various institutional donors, corporations, and foundations. The specialist will work closely with the Head of Office, Programme Managers, and other units to align fundraising efforts with IOM's global and regional priorities. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying funding opportunities, developing proposals, and maintaining relationships with donors, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and IOM's strategic objectives. The specialist will also engage with the private sector to cultivate partnerships that support IOM Hungary's initiatives, enhancing the organization's visibility and impact in the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Donor Engagement & Fundraising Strategy Development: Identify and pursue funding opportunities from government donors, EU institutions, corporate partners, and philanthropic foundations. Develop and implement a fundraising strategy aligned with IOM’s global and regional priorities. Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing and prospective donors by organizing meetings, presentations, and strategic engagements. Research and analyze funding trends to identify emerging opportunities for IOM Hungary’s programmatic areas.
  • Proposal Development & Grant Writing: Lead the development of concept notes, project proposals, and funding applications, ensuring alignment with donor priorities and IOM’s strategic objectives. Work closely with Programme Managers and PSU to integrate monitoring & evaluation (M&E) frameworks, logical frameworks, and results matrices into proposals. Ensure that project proposals meet donor compliance requirements, are technically sound, and include appropriate risk analysis. Support the budget preparation process, coordinating with RMU to ensure cost-effectiveness and feasibility.
  • Private Sector Engagement & Strategic Partnerships: Identify and cultivate private sector partnerships to support IOM Hungary’s initiatives. Develop corporate social responsibility (CSR) collaborations and funding opportunities with businesses aligned with IOM’s mandate. Negotiate and formalize partnership agreements, sponsorships, and in-kind contributions from private sector entities. Organize networking events, roundtables, and donor visibility campaigns to enhance engagement.
  • Donor Reporting & Compliance: Coordinate with PSU to ensure donor compliance, providing fundraising-related inputs for reports and supporting donor engagement strategies. Ensure that donor reports, prepared by the PSU, align with funding agreements and donor expectations. Provide inputs related to private sector partnerships and fundraising impact as required. Track and document funding agreements, reporting deadlines, and financial disbursements. Ensure compliance with IOM’s financial regulations and donor requirements related to funding utilization and transparency.
  • Visibility, Communications, & Advocacy Support: Collaborate with Media & Communications to enhance donor visibility and ensure that funding partners receive appropriate acknowledgment. Develop promotional materials, donor briefings, and success stories highlighting IOM’s impact. Assist in organizing high-profile donor visits, media events, and fundraising campaigns. Ensure alignment of fundraising initiatives with IOM’s global advocacy and communications strategies.
  • Capacity Building & Knowledge Sharing: Provide training and technical guidance to programme teams on proposal writing, donor compliance, and grant management. Keep IOM Hungary staff updated on funding trends, donor priorities, and best practices in fundraising. Contribute to the development of internal fundraising tools, standard operating procedures, and guidelines.
  • Other Duties: Represent IOM Hungary in external donor coordination platforms, fundraising networks, and partnership forums. Undertake duty travel as necessary for donor engagement, project development, and partnership meetings. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in fundraising, donor relations, and partnership management within the humanitarian or development sector. Proven experience in grant writing, proposal development, and business development is essential. Familiarity with private sector engagement, corporate social responsibility initiatives, and corporate fundraising is highly desirable. The candidate should also have a solid understanding of donor reporting, compliance, and financial tracking, along with knowledge of EU funding instruments and international donor policies. Experience working in international organizations, non-profits, or donor agencies will be considered an advantage.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Political Science, or related fields from an accredited academic institution is required, along with four years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, a Master’s degree in the aforementioned fields will also be accepted. It is important that the educational qualifications are from accredited universities recognized in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience:
Candidates should have proven experience in fundraising, donor relations, and partnership management, particularly in the humanitarian or development sectors. Demonstrated success in grant writing, proposal development, and business development is crucial. Experience in private sector engagement, corporate social responsibility initiatives, and corporate fundraising is also necessary. A strong background in donor reporting, compliance, and financial tracking is expected, as well as familiarity with EU funding instruments and international donor policies. Experience working in international organizations, non-profits, or donor agencies is considered an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Hungarian is required, both oral and written. IOM’s official languages include English, French, and Spanish. Proficiency in these languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
