Job Overview: The Legal Officer, Corporate Law Lead is a pivotal role within the Office of Legal Affairs, responsible for providing high-quality legal services and advice on a range of corporate law issues. This position involves conducting thorough legal research, preparing legal opinions, drafting legal instruments, and advising senior management on various legal matters, particularly those related to contract law, procurement, financial regulations, and resource mobilization. The incumbent will coordinate the Corporate Law work of the section, ensuring that all legal activities align with the IAEA's policies and regulations. The role requires strong analytical skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders. The Legal Officer will also represent the section in specialized meetings and inter-departmental committees, contributing legal expertise to policy discussions and negotiations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Act as the focal point for Corporate Law issues, managing workflow and supervising the workload of Legal Officers in the section.
Conduct initial reviews of the work produced by other Legal Officers to ensure quality and consistency.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders within and outside the IAEA.
Provide legal advice and draft documents related to contractual and financial matters, including compliance with the IAEA's Financial Regulations and Rules.
Advise on the drafting and interpretation of procurement policies and guidelines.
Draft contracts, agreements, and other legal instruments, ensuring clarity and compliance with applicable laws.
Provide legal advice on human resources matters, including staff regulations and internal appeals.
Conduct research on agreements with Member States and other organizations, providing inputs for negotiations and consultations.
Represent the section in meetings and committees, offering legal insights on relevant policy issues. 1
Ensure that all legal work adheres to internationally accepted standards and practices.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a higher degree in law (e.g., Juris Doctor or an advanced law degree) and have a minimum of seven years of relevant experience, including several years at the international level. Proven ability to prepare legal drafts and provide sound legal advice is essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills in English, and knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is considered an asset.
Educational Background: A higher degree in law, such as a Juris Doctor or an advanced law degree, is required for this position. This educational background should provide a strong foundation in legal principles and practices, particularly in areas relevant to corporate law and international law.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of relevant legal experience, with a significant portion of that time spent in an international context. Candidates should have a proven track record of preparing legal documents and providing legal advice on complex issues, particularly in relation to corporate law, contract law, and financial regulations.

Additional Notes: The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $84,672, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance.
