Job Overview: The Regional Advocacy Specialist will play a crucial role in implementing and leading Project 21’s Communication and Advocacy Strategy. This position requires close collaboration with the project team to effectively visualize and communicate key messages to relevant stakeholders. The specialist will be responsible for translating research and data into advocacy strategies and products, including policy briefs and public statements. The role also involves planning and executing communication and visibility activities aligned with the project's Influencing Strategy and Advocacy and Communications Plan. The specialist will oversee the collection of communication materials and social media content to enhance the visibility of Project 21's mission and results, ensuring that all communications are impactful and resonate with the target audience. Additionally, the specialist will represent Project 21 in regional forums and liaise with key UN and INGO counterparts, making this position vital for the project's success in advocating for the rights and needs of displaced persons.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Regional Advocacy Specialist include: collaborating with the project team to ensure research and data inform advocacy strategies; leading the advocacy strategy and work plan in coordination with P21’s team; developing targeted communication content for dissemination across various channels; planning and implementing communication and visibility activities; recommending communication strategies aligned with advocacy objectives; overseeing the collection of communication materials and social media content; supporting the development of project-related communications materials such as brochures and reports; providing editing and proofreading support in both French and English; assisting in the creative design of documents and graphic assets; bringing innovative ideas to enhance Project 21 communications; and participating in relevant regional INGO forums to represent P21 and engage with key stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Regional Advocacy Specialist position should possess excellent oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to create strong advocacy and communication materials. Candidates should have experience in developing diverse communication content, including reports and social media posts, and exhibit high-level analytical and strategic thinking skills with attention to detail. Strong messaging and creative storytelling abilities are essential, along with excellent writing and editing skills in both English and French. Experience in influencing and advocacy work, particularly in humanitarian issues, is highly desirable, as is experience in data storytelling and working within an international NGO. A minimum of four years of relevant experience in public relations, advocacy, communications, or media relations at a national or international level is required. Candidates should also demonstrate patience, adaptability, flexibility, and strong interpersonal skills, along with excellent planning and coordination abilities to manage a complex workload effectively.
Educational Background: Candidates for the Regional Advocacy Specialist position should have a relevant educational background, typically including a degree in communications, public relations, international relations, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in advocacy or humanitarian work may be advantageous and enhance a candidate's qualifications for this role.
Experience: The position requires at least four years of experience in a relevant field, which may include public relations, advocacy, communications, or media relations.
