Job Overview:
The position of Photographer/Videographer at UN Women involves working under the supervision of the Programme Specialist for Governance Peace and Security at the Asia Pacific Regional Office. The consultant will be responsible for developing a comprehensive photo and video bank, managing a regional Flickr account, and utilizing the UN Women Digital Assets Management System (DAMS). The role requires collaboration with the hiring unit and communications focal points to execute concepts through production. The consultant will provide professional photographic and videographic coverage for various promotional materials, publications, social media, and campaigns, ensuring high-resolution and quality outputs. The consultant will also support the organization of photo exhibitions and cultural events, perform video editing and post-processing, and ensure that all deliverables meet UN Women’s technical and branding standards. This role is crucial for documenting and promoting UN Women’s initiatives and the impact of its projects in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including: providing digital color photographic and video coverage for promotional materials, websites, publications, social media, and campaigns; ensuring high-resolution and quality outputs; cataloging and archiving all photos and videos in the platforms provided by UN Women; supporting the organization of photo exhibitions and cultural events; managing video lighting and editing footage; delivering photos and videos of key events and field missions promptly; ensuring all digital photographs contain complete caption information; and adhering to UN Women’s communications policies and guidelines. The consultant will also be responsible for obtaining signed releases from interview subjects, operating video cameras and audio equipment, and ensuring appropriate licensing of any third-party materials used in the production of videos and photographs. Additionally, the consultant will need to engage in field trips to cover special events and activities at the country level, with UN Women handling travel arrangements.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Media, Arts, Communications, or a relevant field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. The consultant must have at least 5 years of working experience in photography, with a proven record of providing high-quality, creative images for clients. Experience capturing images for development organizations, such as NGOs or UN agencies, is considered an asset. The consultant should also demonstrate flexibility and the ability to work outside Bangkok and abroad, as well as a residence in Thailand. Proficiency in English is mandatory, and candidates of all nationalities, including Thai nationals, are encouraged to apply.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a Master’s degree in Media, Arts, Communications, or a related field. In cases where candidates hold a first-level university degree, they must also have two additional years of qualifying experience to be considered for the role. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant possesses the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively perform the duties associated with photography and videography in a professional context.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience in photography, with a strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality and creative images. Candidates should have experience working with development organizations, such as NGOs or UN agencies, which will be advantageous. The ability to work flexibly and travel outside of Bangkok and abroad is also a key requirement. Additionally, candidates must be residents of Thailand to be eligible for this consultancy role.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. This includes the ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken forms, as the consultant will be required to produce captions, reports, and other documentation in English. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in the context of engaging with diverse communities and stakeholders in the region.

  • The consultant will be engaged under a retainer contract, allowing for direct engagement based on need and availability within the contract period for a pre-agreed fee. UN Women will cover accommodation and travel expenses incurred during assignments, and payment will be made in full upon the satisfactory submission of deliverables for each event. The consultant is expected to adhere to UN Women’s policies and procedures, including those related to diversity and inclusion, and will undergo rigorous reference and background checks as part of the recruitment process.
