Job Overview:
The Project Manager will oversee a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) project funded by the European Union, located in Banz, Jiwaka Province, Papua New Guinea. This project aims to improve equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water and adequate sanitation services, particularly for vulnerable groups and high-density areas such as schools and healthcare facilities. The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of the project, which focuses on two key outcomes: enhancing access to safe water and sanitation services in community facilities and promoting the sustained use of these services along with improved hygiene practices among the local population. The role requires close collaboration with UNICEF and various governmental bodies to ensure the project's objectives are met sustainably and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Manager will be responsible for developing and updating implementation plans, managing project delivery and performance, ensuring compliance with quality standards, and liaising with external suppliers. Key responsibilities include: managing the production of required outputs, monitoring project progress, controlling changes, leading contract management duties, identifying potential risks, and reporting business opportunities. The Project Manager will also prepare regular project and financial reports, maintain stakeholder engagement, ensure compliance with audit requirements, and foster a culture of respect and zero tolerance for discrimination within the project team. Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an Advanced University Degree in a relevant discipline such as Project Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree combined with an additional 2 years of relevant work experience may be accepted. The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in managing infrastructure projects, particularly in the design and technical supervision of WASH infrastructures. Experience with the UN/UNOPS and EU, as well as in contracts management and developing procurement strategies, is highly advantageous. Familiarity with risk management and working in conflict or post-conflict areas is also beneficial.

Educational Background:
An Advanced University Degree in Project Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree and an additional 2 years of relevant work experience may also be considered. This educational background is essential to ensure the Project Manager has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively oversee the WASH project and manage its complexities.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in managing infrastructure projects, particularly in the areas of design and technical supervision of WASH infrastructures. Experience working with the UN/UNOPS and EU is considered an advantage, as is experience in contracts management, developing procurement strategies, and risk management. Additionally, experience in conflict and post-conflict areas, as well as working with multicultural teams, is beneficial for this role.

Languages:
Full working knowledge of English is essential for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in the context of stakeholder engagement and communication within the diverse cultural landscape of Papua New Guinea.
