The position is located within the Joint Mission Analysis Centre/Joint Operations Centre (JMAC/JOC) of the United Nations Interim security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA). The UNISFA was established to ensure peace and security in the Abyei Area, which is a disputed territory between Sudan and South Sudan. The organization aims to support the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance. Job Overview:
The Senior Information Analyst will play a crucial role in providing analytical support to the mission's leadership. This position requires the incumbent to manage an integrated team of civilian and uniformed personnel, ensuring effective coordination of information requests and monitoring developments in the political, military, and security landscape of Sudan and South Sudan. The analyst will be responsible for producing high-quality analytical products, including risk analyses and threat assessments, which are essential for informed decision-making by senior mission leaders. The role also involves preparing standard operating procedures and managing the unit's work plan, highlighting the importance of strategic planning and organization in achieving the mission's objectives. The Senior Information Analyst will be expected to maintain confidentiality and ensure that sensitive information is handled appropriately, reflecting the high standards of professionalism required in this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Information Analyst will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
  • Providing briefings to the Mission Senior Leadership Team and representing the JMAC in various mission-level meetings.
  • Managing the integrated JMAC team, overseeing coordination of Requests for Information between the JMAC and other mission components.
  • Continuously monitoring and assessing political, military, and economic developments in Sudan and South Sudan.
  • Ensuring comprehensive information gathering related to events affecting the mission's mandate.
  • Supporting contingency planning and enhancing the understanding of ground developments among senior leaders.
  • Overseeing the monitoring of diverse information sources, including situation reports and local news.
  • Ensuring timely production of analytical products and providing technical support for database and website development.
  • Liaising with the Mission Crisis Management Team and responding to incidents as necessary.
  • Maintaining regular contact with heads of mission components to address emerging needs. 1
  • Preparing and implementing the unit's work plan and managing staff recruitment and selection. 1
  • Performing other relevant duties as directed by the Head of Mission.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong analytical skills and experience in information collection and management. Excellent drafting and editing skills are essential, along with the ability to produce coherent reports and provide leadership advice. The ability to integrate various perspectives into analytical products is crucial, as is the capacity to prepare sensitive and confidential reports in a high-pressure environment. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, efficiency, and a commitment to gender equality in their work. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are required, along with the ability to tailor communication to different audiences. Planning and organizational skills are necessary to develop clear goals and manage priorities effectively. Candidates should also exhibit sound judgment and decision-making abilities, considering the impact of their decisions on the organization and its stakeholders.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, foreign affairs, law, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience and relevant academic or professional qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. This educational background is essential for understanding the complex political and security dynamics in the region and for effectively contributing to the mission's objectives.

Experience:
A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in intelligence or information analysis, political or international affairs, journalism, or security (military or police) is required. Candidates should have advisory or managerial responsibilities in their previous roles. Experience working in or supporting a field operation of the United Nations or a comparable international organization is desirable, as is leadership and managerial experience. Familiarity with Early Warning Systems and knowledge of UN rules and regulations will be advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required for this position. Knowledge of French is desirable, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in both languages will enhance communication and collaboration within the organization and with external stakeholders.
