Job Overview: The National AMR Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in coordinating and managing Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) initiatives in the Philippines. This position involves serving as the national focal point for AMR, ensuring effective collaboration between FAO and government partners. The coordinator will support the planning, implementation, and reporting of various AMR-related projects, including the Global Action Plan and the Philippine National Action Plan on AMR for 2024-202
The role requires a strong focus on capacity development, community engagement, and advocacy to promote antimicrobial stewardship and good animal production practices. The coordinator will also facilitate consultations with stakeholders, develop strategies to harmonize AMR initiatives, and support the integration of AMR programs at various levels of governance. Additionally, the position involves monitoring progress against work plans, ensuring compliance with FAO standards, and preparing communication materials that align with FAO's strategic framework and guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National AMR Project Coordinator will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including:
Serving as the FAO national AMR focal point, ensuring coordination between FAO and government partners in implementing the Global Action Plan and Philippine National Action Plan on AMR.
Supporting the overall coordination, planning, and implementation of AMR projects, including the AMR Fleming Fund 3 and EU AMR project, in collaboration with government counterparts.
Conducting assessments using the progressive management pathway (PMP-AMR) and developing an AMR Programme and Strategy to streamline initiatives.
Promoting antimicrobial stewardship and social behavior change through community engagement and good animal production practices.
Supporting the agriculture sector in promoting Philippine National Standards on good animal production.
Developing concept notes and leading the conduct of Farmer Field Schools (FFS) in coordination with national consultants.
Participating in surveillance and epidemiology efforts to integrate AMR programs at all governance levels.
Supporting the piloting of IAEA sampling protocols for AMR surveillance at the farm level.
Generating and analyzing AMU, AMR, and socio-economic impact data to inform policy development. 1
Liaising with national and regional committees on AMR and participating in multi-stakeholder meetings. 1
Preparing web articles and reports related to AMR initiatives and monitoring progress against work plans. 1
Ensuring compliance with FAO guidelines in all administrative and financial matters related to the project. 1
Carrying out other relevant duties as requested within the scope of technical competence.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in Veterinary Medicine or related fields, along with at least 7 years of relevant practical experience in Animal Health, One Health, or AMR management, including surveillance and monitoring. Full proficiency in English (level C) is required, and candidates must be nationals of the Philippines. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate familiarity with international organizations and possess in-depth knowledge of project management, strategic planning, and financial reporting. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to promote efficiency and best practices in achieving project objectives. Proficiency in standard office software, such as MS Office, is also necessary.
Educational Background: The position requires a university degree in Veterinary Medicine or a related field. An advanced university degree is considered an asset, and candidates should have their qualifications recognized by the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of relevant practical experience in the fields of Animal Health, One Health, or AMR management. This experience should include work related to surveillance and monitoring of antimicrobial resistance and the implementation of related projects.
Languages: Full proficiency in English (level C) is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, but English is the primary language of communication within FAO.
