UNEP FI, a partnership between UNEP and the global financial sector, was created in the wake of the 1992 Earth Summit with a mission to promote sustainable finance. UNEP FI focuses on policy promotion and country-level dialogues between finance practitioners, supervisors, regulators, and policymakers, while also engaging in international processes such as global climate negotiations.

Job Overview:
The intern will support the implementation and consolidation of UNEP FI outreach and coordination plans across the Africa and Middle East (AME) regions. Under the direct supervision of the Signatory Relations team and working closely with the AME Regional Coordinator, the intern will assist in various tasks including writing country and member profiles, conducting membership surveys, identifying financial institutions for outreach, and preparing sustainable finance events. The role requires strong communication skills in English, Arabic, and French, as the intern will be involved in drafting concept notes, preparing national workshops, and developing public communication materials such as newsletters and case studies. The intern will also update the contact database for UNEP FI Signatories and assist in community platform creation and management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's duties will include:
  • Assisting in writing country and member profiles, monitoring reports, and establishing key areas of expertise for supporting institutions in English, Arabic, and French.
  • Supporting membership surveys across the AME region in the same languages.
  • Identifying financial institutions for outreach in line with banking, insurance, and investment membership strategies.
  • Assisting with the preparation of sustainable finance events, including training and awareness-raising activities, and drafting concept notes.
  • Preparing national workshops by managing invitations and logistical matters.
  • Developing public communication materials through UNEP FI newsletters, websites, case studies, and quarterly member calls.
  • Updating the contact database for UNEP FI Signatories.
  • Supporting the Regional Coordinator and Signatory Relations Manager on various matters as necessary.
  • Writing, editing, proofreading, and preparing communications for members in English, Arabic, and French. 1
  • Assisting in the creation and management of community platforms.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with a university degree and must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. Applicants should be final year undergraduate or master’s degree students in fields such as development studies, economics, business administration, finance, or environmental studies, and should have some experience in communications. Proof of enrollment or graduation date is required if selected for this position.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in a graduate program or in the final year of a bachelor's degree program, or have completed a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program. The field of study should be closely related to the internship type being applied for, and applicants must provide proof of enrollment or graduation as part of their application.

Experience:
No professional work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, candidates should have relevant training, education, or advanced coursework that would benefit the United Nations during their internship. Experience in communications or related fields is advantageous but not mandatory.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship. Knowledge of French and Arabic is desirable, as the intern will be working in a multilingual environment and will need to communicate effectively in these languages.
