Job Overview: UNU-FLORES is seeking highly motivated and committed local and international experts with relevant experience in the integrated management of environmental resources for short-term assignments/projects related to the Resource Nexus. This position invites experts to apply to the Adjunct Professor/Researchers Roster, where they will be considered for relevant opportunities as they arise. Candidates can expect an expedited contractual process, allowing for rapid availability. Those selected for the roster will have the opportunity to apply for other vacancies posted on the UNU website. Successful candidates holding the title of Professor will be employed as Adjunct Professors, while those without this title will be designated as Adjunct Researchers. The selected candidates will be invited to spend an initial sabbatical period of 6 to 12 months on a part-time basis at the Institute. It is important to note that the specific tasks and responsibilities will be outlined in more detail once a suitable opportunity arises, but candidates should be prepared for a range of research and teaching activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will work under the authority and supervision of the Director of UNU-FLORES and collaborate closely with the academic team at the Institute. Key responsibilities include conducting research activities in the Resource Nexus field, collaborating with both junior and senior researchers; initiating and participating in budget funding and fundraising activities; publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals, books, and policy briefs; conducting policy analysis and providing advice on capacity development and governance issues related to integrated resource management; contributing to ongoing UNU-FLORES initiatives such as lecture series and institutional meetings; and performing other duties as assigned by the Director. This role requires a proactive approach to research and collaboration, as well as a commitment to advancing the Institute's mission.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a PhD related to the integrated management of environmental resources and have a minimum of five years of post-PhD research experience. A strong track record of research publications in areas related to integrated resources management is essential. Proficiency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory, while knowledge of German is highly beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate excellent writing skills with proven success in publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, candidates must be highly self-motivated, innovative, and organized, with a professional and conscientious attitude that allows for independent prioritization of tasks. Additional Notes: The successful candidate will be engaged under a Consultant Contract (CTC) for a duration of 6 to 12 months. It is important to note that consultants engaged by UNU may not provide services for more than twenty-four months within a thirty-six month period. Payment will be based on the completion of specified deliverables, and remuneration will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Employment on a CTC contract for former UNU staff members who receive a pension from the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund is subject to restrictions. UNU is not liable for any taxes that may be levied on the remuneration received under this contract, and the responsibility for any such taxes lies solely with the contractor. Additionally, UNU-FLORES does not provide health insurance arrangements, and the contract does not entitle the consultant to annual or sick leave.
