Job Overview:
The Contingent Owned Equipment Assistant plays a crucial role within the MONUSCO's Contingent Owned Equipment (COE) Unit. This position is responsible for ensuring that the equipment and logistics support provided to formed units comply with the agreements set forth in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The assistant will conduct various inspections to verify operational readiness and compliance, provide advice on COE-related matters, and maintain comprehensive records of equipment and inspections. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to the mission's goals, including gender equality and teamwork. The assistant will also participate in pre-deployment visits to assist units in preparing for field missions, ensuring that all logistical aspects are addressed effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Contingent Owned Equipment Assistant will be responsible for conducting inspections of formed units, including Arrival, Operational Readiness, Repatriation, and Periodic inspections. They will raise COE Verification Reports for approval, provide advice on compliance issues, and maintain inventories of COE held by assigned units. The assistant will also oversee the issuance of UN-owned equipment and services, report any losses or damages, and maintain up-to-date records and databases related to inspections and equipment. Additionally, they will perform other duties as required, demonstrating professionalism and a commitment to the mission's objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with training in Information Technology. A minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in material management and logistics support is required. Experience with MOUs and providing services in a UN field operation or comparable international organization is desirable. Familiarity with inventory control practices is also beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of logistics and material management principles, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, candidates must have specific training in Information Technology, which is essential for managing the electronic records and databases associated with the COE Unit's operations.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in material management and logistics support activities. Candidates with experience in the implementation and management of MOUs, as well as those who have worked in field operations of the United Nations or similar organizations, will be given preference. Experience in inventory control practices is also desirable, as it is critical for maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with UN standards.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and French is required for this position, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in both languages, as this will be essential for collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders in the mission.
