Job Overview:
The consultancy position is designed to empower youth leaders from various regions and communities in Guinea-Bissau by providing them with essential leadership skills and knowledge necessary for effective community leadership and sustainable business development. The consultant will also focus on equipping UNFPA interns and fellows with the skills needed to engage in leadership roles and participate actively in community initiatives. The role involves designing and delivering training programs that foster collaboration, enhance problem-solving abilities, and promote civic responsibility among youth leaders. The consultant will be responsible for creating a comprehensive training curriculum, conducting interactive training sessions, and providing ongoing support to participants as they develop their leadership and entrepreneurial skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Developing a comprehensive leadership training curriculum tailored to the needs of youth in Bissau, incorporating modules on self-awareness, communication, team building, conflict resolution, and community engagement.
  • Conducting interactive training sessions for approximately 70 youth leaders over a period of 14 days, utilizing various teaching methods such as workshops, group activities, role-playing, and case studies.
  • Providing training materials, handouts, and toolkits for participants, along with a leadership handbook summarizing key concepts and practices.
  • Developing pre- and post-training assessments to measure the progress and impact of the training, and gathering feedback from participants to evaluate effectiveness.
  • Designing an entrepreneurship training curriculum that covers business planning, market research, financial management, marketing, and legal considerations.
  • Guiding participants through the process of creating detailed business plans and offering one-on-one coaching to refine their business ideas.
  • Assisting participants in identifying and applying for grants and funding opportunities, and establishing a follow-up mechanism to monitor the progress of their business ventures.
  • Developing a training program for UNFPA interns and fellows that includes modules on leadership and youth participation, ensuring the application of the internship plan and elaborating a monitoring and evaluation form for performance assessment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in fields such as economics, business administration, sociology, law, psychology, statistics, or a related discipline. A minimum of 4 years of relevant progressive experience in leadership, youth development, and empowerment is required for those with a Master's degree, or 8 years for those with a Bachelor's degree. Proven experience in designing and delivering leadership and entrepreneurship training programs is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong knowledge of Guinea-Bissau's youth ecosystem, with previous experience working with youth institutions, government, or international organizations being advantageous. Excellent facilitation, communication, and mentoring skills are necessary, along with the ability to develop comprehensive training materials and assessment tools.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree, specifically a Master's degree or equivalent, in relevant fields such as economics, business administration, sociology, law, psychology, statistics, or related areas. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of youth development and the socio-economic context of Guinea-Bissau.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience for candidates with a Master's degree, or 8 years for those with a Bachelor's degree. This experience should be progressive and focused on leadership, youth development, and empowerment, including gender-related issues. Candidates should have a proven track record in designing and delivering training programs that enhance leadership and entrepreneurship skills among youth.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position. Additionally, an excellent command of written and spoken English or French is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with diverse stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of training delivery.

The consultancy assignment is expected to last for 3 months, with a start date as soon as possible in August 202
  • The work will primarily be home-based, with field missions to various regions of Guinea-Bissau. The consultant will be compensated based on a payment schedule tied to the completion of deliverables, with 40% allocated for Leadership Training, 40% for Entrepreneurship and Business Development Training, and 20% for the Interns and Fellows program. All deliverables must be approved by the UNFPA Assistant Representative before any payment is processed. The consultant will work under the direction of the UNFPA Assistant Representative, with direct supervision from the Adolescent and Youth Reproductive Health and Demographic Dividend Programme Analyst.
