The position is located within the Joint Mission Analysis Centre/Joint Operations Centre (JMAC/JOC) of the United Nations Interim security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA). The UNISFA was established to oversee the security situation in the Abyei Area, which is contested between Sudan and South Sudan. Job Overview:
The Senior Information Analyst will play a crucial role in the JMAC/JOC, reporting directly to the Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander. This position requires the incumbent to provide comprehensive briefings to senior leadership and represent the JMAC in various mission-level meetings. The analyst will manage an integrated team of civilian and uniformed personnel, ensuring effective coordination of information requests between different mission components and the UN Country Team. The role involves continuous monitoring and assessment of political, military, and economic developments in Sudan and South Sudan, which are vital for the operational environment. The analyst will also support contingency planning and enhance the understanding of ground developments among senior mission leaders. The position demands a proactive approach to gathering and analyzing information that may impact the mission's mandate, ensuring timely production of analytical reports and assessments. The Senior Information Analyst will also oversee the monitoring of various information sources and maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive data.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Information Analyst will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Provide briefings to the Mission Senior Leadership Team and represent the JMAC in mission-level meetings.
  • Manage the integrated JMAC team, overseeing coordination of Requests for Information.
  • Continuously monitor and assess political, military, security, and economic developments in Sudan and South Sudan.
  • Ensure comprehensive information gathering regarding events affecting the mission's mandate.
  • Support contingency planning and enhance senior leaders' understanding of developments on the ground.
  • Oversee the monitoring of information sources, including situation reports and local news.
  • Ensure timely production of risk analyses, threat assessments, and analytical reports.
  • Liaise with the Mission Crisis Management Team and respond to incidents as required.
  • Maintain regular contact with heads of Mission components to address emerging needs. 1
  • Prepare standard operating procedures and manage the unit's work plan. 1
  • Recruit and select staff for the integrated team. 1
  • Perform other relevant duties as directed by the Head of Mission.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong analytical skills and experience in information collection and management. Excellent drafting and editing skills are essential, along with the ability to produce coherent reports and edit the work of others. The ability to develop information collection and analysis plans that align with the mission's strategic objectives is crucial. Candidates should demonstrate the capability to produce forward-looking analytical products and provide relevant leadership advice. Proven experience in preparing sensitive analytical reports and presentations in high-pressure environments is required. Candidates must also show a commitment to gender perspectives and equal participation in all areas of work.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, foreign affairs, law, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience and relevant academic/professional qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in intelligence or information analysis, political or international affairs, journalism, or security (military or police) is required. Candidates should have advisory or managerial responsibilities in their previous roles. Experience in a field operation of the United Nations or a comparable international organization is desirable, as is leadership and managerial experience. Familiarity with Early Warning Systems and knowledge of UN rules and regulations is also advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is mandatory. Knowledge of French is desirable, as both languages are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
