Job Overview: The Economic Recovery Officer (Food Security - General Food Assistance) is tasked with overseeing the implementation and supervision of food assistance activities from January to March 202
This role is critical in managing data, reporting, and ensuring the effective execution of General Food Assistance (GFA) initiatives. The officer will collaborate closely with local authorities, community leaders, and stakeholders to coordinate project activities. Responsibilities include beneficiary mapping, identifying new warehouses and Food Distribution Points (FDPs), and providing support across various sectors as needed. The officer will be actively involved in the field, ensuring that assistance is delivered efficiently and effectively to vulnerable households in Hodeida, particularly in the Al Mansouriya and As Sukhnah districts, which are severely affected by ongoing conflict and food insecurity.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Economic Recovery Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Collaborating with key stakeholders, including government entities and NGOs, to raise awareness about the project and its benefits.
Working closely with the General Food Assistant (GFA) Team to achieve project outcomes.
Establishing Food Assistance Committees (FAC) and collaborating with community stakeholders to identify and select beneficiaries.
Coordinating activities with local authorities and community leaders to ensure effective communication and project success.
Mapping beneficiaries and identifying new warehouses/Food Distribution Points (FDPs) for future assistance.
Conducting assessments and analyzing data to ensure timely delivery of assistance.
Reporting daily activities to the team leader and maintaining accurate records of distributions and beneficiary verification.
Sensitizing and training Community-Based Committees (CBC) to verify eligible households for food assistance.
Assisting in market assessments and monitoring activities as required. 1
Maintaining knowledge of security networks for access and coordination. 1
Fostering relationships with partner organizations and humanitarian agencies. 1
Participating in Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) activities as directed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in development studies, social science, or a related field relevant to emergency response in rural conflict areas. A minimum of two years of experience working with humanitarian organizations in general food distribution is required. Proficiency in Arabic and English is essential, along with familiarity with the security, programming, and cultural contexts in Hodeida. Candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity, and flexibility, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are also necessary.
Educational Background: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as development studies, social science, or a related discipline that pertains to emergency response in rural conflict areas. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the specific challenges faced in conflict-affected regions.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least two years of relevant experience working with humanitarian organizations, specifically in the field of general food distribution. Experience in similar contexts, particularly in Hodeida, is highly valued, with at least one year of experience preferred. Candidates should be adept at navigating unstable and frequently changing security environments and demonstrate a willingness to travel among different districts as needed.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic (both written and spoken) is mandatory, along with good English language skills, particularly in written communication. Excellent report writing skills, including the ability to edit the work of others, are essential for this role.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position will last until 31st March 2024, with the possibility of renewal based on funding and performance. The workplace is located in Hodeida (Al Mansouriya and As Sukhnah), with travel required to the field. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National staff, and this position will be classified at level NMH
