Job Overview: The Director, Strategy and Operations will play a crucial role in supporting the Country Director and senior management team in executing the organization’s strategic direction in Nigeria. This position requires a strategic thought partner who can maintain a big-picture view while also focusing on the details necessary for effective execution. The Director will be responsible for conducting strategic analyses, supporting new initiatives, developing high-priority content for boards and donors, and coordinating top organizational priorities. The role demands a strong work ethic and the ability to navigate multiple workstreams while also providing strategic insights and troubleshooting challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Support and Thought Partnership: Prepare the Country Director for high-impact meetings, drive coordination for donor engagement, establish and foster relationships with key partners, develop donor-facing materials, produce performance analysis reports, maintain donor intelligence, and advise on funding opportunities.
Business Development and External Engagement: Manage submissions and timelines for funding, develop compelling materials, track donor funding trends, and collaborate with global teams on new business opportunities.
Program Performance Management: Support program implementation and evaluation, review performance management frameworks, create tracking tools, and monitor program performance.
Special Projects: Lead cross-cutting initiatives, enhance internal communications, and undertake any other responsibilities assigned by the Country Director.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree (MBA, MPP, MPA, or MA in International Development or equivalent) and have a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience, including at least 4 years in strategy or management consulting. They should have international experience or a strong understanding of the challenges in the international development sector, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. A successful track record in securing high-value projects from bilateral and multilateral donors is essential, along with expertise in new business development, project design, proposal writing, and managing donor relationships.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Public Policy, Public Administration, or International Development is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of international development and health systems.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in relevant fields, with at least 4 years in strategy or management consulting. Candidates should have experience in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment and a strong understanding of the international development sector, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Demonstrated experience in managing and supporting international development programs is preferred, along with a successful track record of securing funding from major donors.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory for this role. Additional language skills are considered a plus, as they can enhance communication and engagement with diverse stakeholders in the international development space.
