Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Mexico is part of the Department of Global Communication and Strategy Division. UNIC Mexico serves as a vital link between the United Nations and the public, providing information about the UN's work and promoting its values. The organization aims to enhance public understanding of the UN's mission and activities, particularly in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. UNIC Mexico is committed to fostering communication and collaboration among various stakeholders, including civil society, academia, and the private sector, to address global challenges and promote sustainable development.

Job Overview:
The Public Information Intern will work under the direct supervision of UNIC’s Director and/or the National Information Officer (NIO). This internship is designed for individuals who are passionate about communication and public information within the context of the United Nations. The intern will be expected to cover full-time working hours for a duration of 6 months, contributing to various communication initiatives and supporting the strategic communication efforts of the UN in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The role involves drafting media and communication documents, assisting in the production and delivery of information products, and coordinating communication activities among UN System agencies in Mexico. The intern will also engage with civil society and assist in organizing events, producing multimedia materials, and promoting UN education and youth participation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's duties may include, but are not limited to: - Drafting media and other communication documents to support UNIC Mexico's outreach efforts. - Assisting in the production and delivery of information communications products and services. - Supporting the strategic communication of the United Nations in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean. - Coordinating communication activities of the UN System agencies in Mexico through the Communication Group. - Updating UNIC Mexico's website and social media accounts, including drafting and editing content. - Liaising with civil society, academia, and NGOs in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. - Assisting in the organization of events and producing multimedia materials for UN global platforms. - Collaborating with the public and private sectors on UN-related activities. - Promoting UN education and youth participation. - Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed the second to last university degree programme of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, journalism, communications, audiovisual communications, social media management, marketing, advertising, multimedia production, or a related field. While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is essential. Applicants must provide proof of their academic status, indicating whether they are in the second to last year of their bachelor’s degree or have completed their degree.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes being a student in the second to last year of a bachelor’s degree programme or having completed a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, journalism, communications, or multimedia production. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided during the application process.

Experience:
No prior professional work experience is required for this internship position. However, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the duties and responsibilities of the internship. This is an opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in public information and communications within an international organization.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written Spanish is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Fluency in English is desirable but not mandatory. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages will enhance the intern's contributions to the UNIC Mexico's communication efforts.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for covering their own costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Mexico may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer. The internship is expected to last for 6 months, with a commitment of 35 hours per week.
