Job Overview: The Human-Centered Design (HCD) Consultant will play a pivotal role in planning and facilitating the design thinking process, particularly in the prototyping phase of HCD in Laos. The consultant will apply a human-centered design approach to support the national immunization program, aiming to understand and address unique barriers to accessing immunization information and services. The role involves synthesizing research outputs, generating insights, and co-facilitating design sprint workshops with program staff and target users. The ultimate goal is to develop evidence-based demand creation interventions that enhance awareness, access, and uptake of vaccinations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for guiding the human-centered design process, which includes workshop development and preparing prototypes for testing. Key responsibilities include: (i) conducting synthesis insight gathering workshops to co-design solutions from March to May 2025, which involves performing research analysis, ideating solutions, and producing a report with a guide for testing sessions; (ii) supporting the prototyping phase from June to July 2025, which includes reviewing plans for rapid prototype testing, guiding target groups in ideation sessions, and iteratively improving prototypes based on feedback; (iii) developing a complete program package for piloting from July to October 2025, which includes creating a client accountability feedback system and supporting local immunization personnel in analyzing vaccine data. The consultant will work closely with the PSI project lead and regional research adviser throughout these phases.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in design, public health, international development, social sciences, or a relevant field, with a master’s degree preferred. A minimum of three years of experience in human-centered design is required, along with a passion for building local skills and team development. Experience in public health, particularly in vaccination, and working with NGOs or in the social sector is essential. Candidates should have experience leading teams in a human-centered design process and references will be required.
Educational Background: The position requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with a preference for candidates holding a master’s degree. Relevant fields include design, public health, international development, and social sciences.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least three years of experience in human-centered design, with a strong background in public health, particularly in vaccination programs.
