Job Overview:
The Research Analyst I/II position within IFPRI's Nutrition, Diets and Health (NDH) Unit is a critical role aimed at supporting the design, data collection, and analysis of large household surveys across Africa. The successful candidate will collaborate with a larger team to ensure the effective execution of research projects that contribute to understanding nutrition and health dynamics in the region. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, proficiency in quantitative methods, and the ability to manage and manipulate large datasets. The position is based in Dakar, Senegal, and is a one-year renewable appointment, emphasizing the importance of local context and collaboration with regional partners. The candidate will be expected to engage actively in all phases of research, from data collection to analysis and reporting, while also ensuring compliance with ethical standards and data management protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Research Analyst I/II include, but are not limited to: organizing, cleaning, manipulating, and analyzing large household longitudinal datasets; assisting in the development and implementation of quantitative surveys, including questionnaire design and software application development for data collection; training field teams and conducting data checks; collaborating with data collection partners to ensure data integrity; managing the study data server; participating in the analysis of survey data alongside the research team; preparing tables and graphs for reports; assisting in the preparation of project deliverables, briefs, and academic papers; preparing large datasets for public access; responding to internal and external data requests; and performing other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
For the Research Analyst I position, a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Economics, or a related field is required, along with two years of relevant professional experience, or a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline. For the Research Analyst II position, a Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Economics, or a related field is required, along with three years of experience in a relevant field. Candidates must demonstrate experience working with quantitative datasets, including data cleaning, management, and analysis. Advanced skills in Stata, excellent knowledge of quantitative evaluation methods, and experience with data entry and CAPI software packages such as SurveyCTO, REDCap, or Survey Solutions are essential. Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills are necessary, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks and produce timely results. Candidates should also have proficiency in written and spoken French and English, and be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Willingness to travel internationally as necessary is also required.

Educational Background:
Candidates applying for the Research Analyst I position must possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Economics, or a related field. Those applying for the Research Analyst II position must hold a Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Economics, or a related field.
