Job Overview: The HMA Assistant - Team Member Interpreter will play a crucial role in facilitating communication between international teams and local personnel. This position involves translating various documents related to Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) and providing verbal interpretation during training and operational activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate translations from English to Arabic and vice versa, as well as familiarizing themselves with specific terminology related to Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Non-Technical Survey (NTS), Explosive Risk Education (EORE), and Mine Action Coordination (MMC). Duties and Responsibilities:
Translate EOD/NTS/EORE/MMC documents from English to Arabic and vice versa.
Provide verbal interpretation between international Technical Field Managers (TFM) and local personnel during training sessions and operational activities.
Accompany TFM during field activities to facilitate communication.
Familiarize oneself with EOD/NTS/EORE/MMC terminology to ensure accurate translations.
Report any security issues encountered during operations to the Team Leader (TL) and/or TFM.
Collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders to achieve programmatic objectives.
Maintain a high standard of professionalism and integrity in all interactions.
Required Qualifications:
Fluency in both written and spoken English and Arabic is mandatory.
Experience working in challenging and insecure environments is essential.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Good physical condition and health are required for fieldwork.
Previous experience as an EOD interpreter is considered an asset.
Familiarity with the Humanitarian Mine Action sector is advantageous.
Educational Background: A college qualification in English language is required for this position. Additional familiarity with the Humanitarian Mine Action sector will be considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to perform effectively in this role.
Experience: Candidates should possess relevant experience working in challenging environments, demonstrating the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. Experience in interpreting and translating in a humanitarian context, particularly related to mine action, will be highly regarded. The role requires a proactive approach and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken Arabic is mandatory, as well as fluency in written and spoken English. These language skills are essential for effective communication and translation in the context of the role.
Additional Notes: The successful applicant will receive a contract until November 30, 2025, with the possibility of renewal based on funding and performance. The position is based in Hodeida, and candidates must be available to start work as soon as possible. The salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment, and this position is classified at Band (I Non-manager). The role reports directly to the HMA Manager.
