Job Overview:
The Business and Human Rights Coordinator will play a pivotal role in advancing the organization's mission by integrating human rights considerations into business practices. This position requires a deep understanding of both human rights issues and the corporate landscape. The Coordinator will be responsible for developing strategies that promote corporate accountability and responsible business conduct, ensuring that businesses respect human rights in their operations and supply chains. The role involves engaging with various stakeholders, including businesses, civil society organizations, and government entities, to foster dialogue and collaboration on human rights issues. The Coordinator will also be expected to conduct research, prepare reports, and provide training to businesses on human rights standards and best practices. This position is crucial for driving systemic change and ensuring that human rights are prioritized in business decision-making processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote human rights in business practices.
  • Engage with corporate stakeholders to encourage responsible business conduct.
  • Conduct research and analysis on business and human rights issues.
  • Prepare reports and policy briefs on findings and recommendations.
  • Organize and facilitate training sessions for businesses on human rights standards.
  • Collaborate with civil society organizations to advocate for human rights protections.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of business practices on human rights.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, meetings, and public forums.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of human rights issues and corporate social responsibility.
  • Proven experience in advocacy, policy development, or related fields.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Experience in project management and strategic planning.
  • Knowledge of international human rights frameworks and standards.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in human rights, international relations, law, business administration, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in human rights advocacy, corporate social responsibility, or a related field is required. Experience working with businesses and understanding their operations is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Swahili or other local languages is considered an asset and would be beneficial for engaging with local stakeholders.
