Job Overview:
The Shea and Safeguarding Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing the implementation of shea-related projects while ensuring that safeguarding measures are integrated into all activities. This position requires a strategic thinker who can develop and manage programs that promote the sustainable harvesting of shea nuts, while also addressing the social and environmental impacts of these activities. The manager will work closely with local communities, stakeholders, and partners to ensure that the projects align with the organization’s mission and values. The role involves conducting assessments, developing training programs, and ensuring compliance with safeguarding policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management, community engagement, and environmental sustainability.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement project plans for shea-related initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Conduct regular assessments of project activities to evaluate effectiveness and impact.
  • Collaborate with local communities to promote sustainable shea harvesting practices.
  • Ensure that all project activities adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Provide training and capacity-building support to community members and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, challenges, and successes to senior management.
  • Engage with external partners and stakeholders to foster collaboration and support for shea initiatives.
  • Advocate for the rights and interests of local communities involved in shea production.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices related to shea and safeguarding.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in project management, particularly in the agricultural or environmental sectors.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, agriculture, social sciences, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be advantageous for candidates seeking to stand out.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in project management, with a focus on community engagement and environmental sustainability. Experience working with local communities and understanding their needs and challenges is essential. Previous experience in the shea industry or similar agricultural sectors is a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in local languages spoken in the project areas is highly desirable and will be considered an asset.
