Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNICEF is a critical role that provides reliable and safe driving services for staff and officials. The Driver is expected to demonstrate professionalism, discretion, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility while adhering to local driving rules and regulations. The Driver will be responsible for transporting UN staff, officials, and visitors, as well as handling the delivery and collection of mail and documents. Additionally, the Driver will maintain the assigned vehicle, ensuring it is in good running condition and properly documented. This position requires a client-oriented approach and the ability to work with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds, making it a vital part of UNICEF's operations in Sri Lanka.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide reliable and safe driving services for UNICEF staff, officials, and visitors, ensuring timely transportation to various locations.
  • Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport, assisting with basic visa and customs formalities as required.
  • Maintain the assigned vehicle in good running condition, addressing minor repairs, arranging for major repairs, and performing regular maintenance tasks such as oil changes and tire checks.
  • Ensure all necessary vehicle-related documentation is available in the vehicle, including insurance, registration, vehicle logs, and a first aid kit.
  • Keep track of insurance and tax formalities for the vehicle.
  • Document vehicle-related information accurately and maintain records of mileage and fuel consumption.
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the UNICEF team.

Required Qualifications:
  • A secondary education is required.
  • A valid driver’s license and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations are essential.
  • A minimum of two years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a safe driving record is required.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of another local language is considered an asset.
  • Good knowledge of the city, local roads, and driving conditions is necessary.
  • Skills in minor vehicle repairs and the ability to deal patiently and tactfully with visitors are important.
  • A high sense of confidentiality, initiative, and good judgment is required, along with the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a secondary education, which provides the foundational knowledge necessary for the role.
