Job Overview:
The Nutrition Officer plays a crucial role in providing professional technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for nutrition programs/projects within the Country Programme. This includes development planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of results. The incumbent is expected to conduct situation analyses, support program development, and provide technical and operational support to ensure effective program delivery. The role requires collaboration with colleagues and partners to address operational issues and facilitate program management, ensuring compliance with organizational rules and donor commitments. The Nutrition Officer will also engage in capacity building initiatives and knowledge sharing to enhance the competencies of stakeholders involved in nutrition-related programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support program development and planning by conducting situation analyses and researching development trends to inform program management.
- Manage and monitor program implementation, ensuring compliance with approved allocations and reporting on program progress.
- Provide technical and operational support to government counterparts and partners, facilitating the application of UNICEF policies and best practices.
- Build and sustain partnerships with stakeholders in the nutrition sector, promoting awareness and supporting fundraising efforts.
- Identify and share lessons learned for knowledge development and capacity building initiatives.
- Conduct regular field visits to assess program progress and resolve issues as they arise.
- Prepare documentation for program reviews and approvals, ensuring timely reporting to management and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
A university degree in nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health sciences, or a related field is required. A minimum of two years of professional experience in nutrition, public health, or maternal and child health/nutrition care is also required. Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of Arabic or a local language is desirable. Experience in health/nutrition program/project development within a UN agency is considered an asset.
Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in fields such as nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health sciences, or other health-related sciences. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of nutrition programs and their implementation.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in a developing country, specifically in areas related to nutrition, public health, or maternal and child health/nutrition care. This experience is crucial for effectively managing and implementing nutrition programs in diverse contexts.
Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of Arabic or a local language is considered an asset, as it can enhance communication with local stakeholders and partners.
